New EFNW Board Chair
Rae Lynne Stewart of Portland, OR was recently elected to chair the Board of Directors for the Epilepsy Foundation Northwest. Ms. Stewart is the managing director for eWomenNetwork in Portland and the owner/founder for Naturally Clean Northwest. Ms. Stewart has served on the EFNW Board for several years acting as the chair of the Northwest Run/Walk for Epilepsy which has grown to include six northwest cities.
Ms. Stewart and her daughter, Kaitlyn, represented EFNW at the 2008 national Epilepsy Foundation "Kid's Speak Up" Conference where they met with northwest Congressional representatives to advocate about epilepsy. Ms. Stewart is joined by four other board members from the Portland area representing Oregon within the affiliate territory.

YEA! Youth Summit Retreat
YEA! hosted its first annual youth retreat July 31-August 1 at Long Lake in Nine Mile, WA. Youth leaders from Oregon and Washington attended along with EFNW staff. The two-day retreat featured team bonding activities, advocacy and leadership training, recreational activities, and youth-driven planning for the future of YEA! Attendees shared experiences about living with epilepsy and overcoming obstacles in their daily lives. The group organized a mock advocacy project utilizing individual skills and talents while bringing together group collaboration. They also spent time setting the stage for the future of YEA! by planning out activities and programs for the coming year. After the work was done, everyone enjoyed swimming, movies, games, great food and more during the two-day event.
