Summerfield Project Wins Design Award

Summerfield Elementary can add another honor to its list of achievements. The newly renovated school was recently named an Outstanding Project by Learning By Design magazine, which recognizes excellence in education design.

 

In its evaluation, the jury panel described Summerfield's innovative effort to turn a collection of crowded yet historic buildings, including a stone gymnasium, into a modern space with room to grow.

Ronald McNair Elementary Expands to Full Size

The front of Ronald McNair Elementary welcomes visitors.

 

The footprint of Ronald McNair Elementary is now fully formed as footings are poured for the remainder of the building.

 

Elsewhere, brick veneer installation has begun, and roofing work and curb and gutter installation continues.

 

The school, which will hold approximately 700 students, is about 38 percent complete with plans to open in August.

Southeast High Employees Enjoying New Office Space

Newly renovated office space at Southeast High was occupied beginning on March 1.

Construction of the administrative addition to Southeast High is nearly complete, and staff members have begun moving into their offices.  

 

A new entryway and signage greets guests to the school, which is 98 percent complete and at the punch list stage.

 

The Board of Education is considering a proposal to name the new media center after John A. Cox, the school's first principal. For more information,

Laughlin Primary Undergoing Transition to Training Facility

A classroom space at Laughlin gets modern technology. The renovations are expected to be complete in May.

The former Laughlin Primary building is getting a facelift, but the students who will get to enjoy it look a little different than those the school once served.

 

The building is in the process of becoming a professional development center that will serve teachers and staff.

 

Sample classrooms will be set up for use during training, as well as conference rooms and office space for the professional development team.

Grimsley Cafeteria Addition Begins, Gymnasium to Come

Drivers on Benjamin Parkway may have been wondering: What's all that construction activity near Grimsley High? The answer: The school has been undergoing site preparation for a cafeteria addition.

 

Grading has begun at the site, which is about 2 percent complete. Bids for the renovations to the gymnasium are under review.

Northwest High Field House Construction Begins

Northwest High's field house will encompass two levels.

Northwest High's new field house is getting under way.  


The foundation is being set for the building, which is designed to work on two levels to fit the existing landscape.

 

At the stadium, demolition of the home and visitor bleachers is complete and utility work continues.
