Family Resource Center Gets New Name

The GCS building located at 617 W. Market St., formerly known as the Family Resource Center, will now be known as the Market Street Administration building.

As the building has not been used as a Family Resource Center for many years, the new name is a more accurate description of the building's function.

The building houses the Operations Department administration, Facilities Planning and Construction and the
pre-kindergarten office, located on the lower level.

More Minority, Women-Owned Businesses Working With GCS

Increased participation by women-owned and minority-owned businesses (MWBE) in the district's construction projects has been a GCS goal for many years. A report given to the Board of Education on Feb. 23 shows that GCS has not only reached but surpassed that goal.

During the 2000 School Bonds, MWBE participation was 8.5 percent, slightly below the 10 percent goal. In 2003, GCS exceeded its goal of 12.46 percent with 16 percent MWBE participation. So far in the 2008 School Bonds, MWBE contracts account for 28.6 percent of construction projects, more than double the goal of 12.46 percent.

A job fair was held in February to promote MWBE participation. To learn more, click here.
