Page High to Host Student Assignment Forum on Oct. 13 

The Guilford County Board of Education will host a public forum to allow parents and the community to provide feedback on proposed changes to student assignment boundaries. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Page High School, 201 Alma Pinnix Drive, Greensboro.

Energy WISE Gets $30,000 E3 Grant 

 

A $30,000 grant from the City of Greensboro will help GCS increase the reach of its award-winning Energy WISE conservation program.

 

The Energy Efficiency Education and Demonstration Challenge Grant, also called the E3 grant, uses federal stimulus funds to support organizations that promote energy efficiency education and activities. This is the second year Guilford County Schools has received the grant.

Ronald E. McNair Elementary Ready for Foundation

Foundation work is in progress at Ronald E. McNair Elementary School.

Construction workers are preparing to pour footings at the site of the district's newest elementary school, Ronald E. McNair Elementary. The school, which is scheduled to open next year, will serve about 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. For more information about proposed attendance zones, click here.

 

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the school, located at 4603 Yanceyville Road, on Friday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Jennifer Landes at 370-8353.

Southwest High Construction Nears Completion 

 

Projects at Southwest High are about 92 percent complete, in anticipation of a December 2011 completion date. The school is getting a new classroom addition, media center and gym addition, and work has begun on the tennis courts.

Alamance Elementary Celebrates With Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Alamance Elementary teachers cut a ribbon to celebrate the school.

The famous Jazzy Jumpers closed a heartfelt ribbon-cutting ceremony at Alamance Elementary, where a crowd gathered in the gym to officially dedicate the new school building.

 

Teacher Phyllis Monroe spoke of her family's history with the school, where four generations have attended. The building welcomed students in August and was completed in September.
