Bids are being accepted for Phase 1 of the Ragsdale High renovations and additions on Nov. 23. Phase 1 work includes the addition of fire protection at the former Jamestown Middle site, widening of Vickrey Chapel Road and relocation of electrical utilities.

Bids are being accepted for the addition and renovation to Northwest Middle, as well as additions and renovations to athletic facilities at Northwest High, on Dec. 1-2.

The new educational wing of the Southwest High addition is equipped with tubular day-lighting devices in classrooms on the second level of the structure. It has been proven in independent studies that day-lighting devices provided in classroom spaces can increase student scores by 20 to 26 percent on standardized test than in spaces with minimal day-lighting.

School officials and community leaders break ground at Allen Middle on Nov. 1.
Construction Begins
at Allen Middle

Construction of a new classroom wing and auxiliary gym has begun at Allen Middle, following a ground-breaking ceremony on Nov. 1. The project, which was originally budgeted at $6,385,538, is under contract for $2,824,100. Completion is expected by July 2011.

stages at Southeast High, where workers were recently installing windows and painting walls. The two-story addition is expected to be complete by early December. A greenhouse facility will be added to the rear of the building, with convenient access to the students it will serve.

Laying New Foundation 

 

Workers continue to develop plumbing infrastructure for the addition to Summerfield Elementary, which will house classrooms, a media center and an expanded dining area. Before construction could begin, crews created a sheltered path to allow students to reach the historic rock gym safely. The project is expected to be finished in October 2011.

Land Secured for North Greensboro Area Elementary School

Guilford County Commissioners have approved the purchase of a site on Yanceyville Road for the construction of a new north Greensboro area elementary school. The school is expected to house about 700 students beginning in August 2012.  

Nominations on the name of the new facility will be accepted through Nov. 22. Submissions can be made by sending in a nomination form via e-mail to gcscomments@gcsnc.com or through U.S. mail to the District Relations Department, Guilford County Schools, 712 N. In October, the Board of Education voted to extend the purchase option for property on Stewart Mill Road to be used as a new Southeast-area elementary school. Other potential sites are also being considered.

 

Potential sites for an airport-area high school are still under evaluation.
