Construction Begins at Alamance Elementary The month of March was monumental for the construction team at Alamance Elementary. The Guilford County Board of Education approved a contractor for the construction projects, and ground clearing began.

GCS Equips Bond Projects with State-of-the-Art Technology
After completion, most of the new bond-related construction projects will receive some of the most modern pieces of educational technology on the market today. "We strive to install technology that enhances the educational process," said Technology Integration Manager Richard Sumner. "We don't install technology because it's new or heavily advertised. We select tools that allow a teacher to work more effectively and provide additional resources to students."
The technology design process for a new school takes about two years -- a year for design and construction and a year for the actual installation process. Renovation projects require the same amount of time it takes to plan the actual building renovations. In collaboration with the building advisory team and contractor, the technology design team is present throughout the entire design and construction process. A technology team of three is involved in the design process and a team of technicians follows construction with installation of technology in each GCS project. GCS strives to save money and provide consistent technology in every project.

North Greensboro Area Elementary Another new school on the drawing table is the North Greensboro Area Elementary. Potential sites for the school have been identified.
Jamestown Middle
After much anticipation, the new Jamestown middle is almost complete. The contractor continues overhead rough-ins, painting, ceramic tile and ceiling grid installation. The new football field has been filled to grade and the ball fields are undergoing storm-piping installation. The school administration is currently facilitating move coordination meetings. Summer 2010 is the scheduled date for staff to gain the certificate of occupancy to the brand new facility.
