Hot Topic: Failure for Growth

Winding Road

When companies are on top they spend a tremendous amounts of time, energy, and money just trying to keep the status quo; they don't want anything to change, because change comes with the unknown.  These companies can sometimes forget what it took to get them to the top; forgetting how many times they were told "no", or that they couldn't say or do things "that way".  When was the last time you fell flat on your face?  Over 6 months ago?  Over 12 months ago?

When a team isn't failing somewhere then they are not growing

Embrace failure, Embrace change, and Reap the rewards.

Minute with Jane: Giddy Up

Our newsletter article this week hit home with me.

You see, last month Xcution officially landed in the # 2 spot for the 2011 Fastest Growing Businesses. I caught myself thinking "Wait a second. In all of Houston...Could this actually be true? We were just hoping for a top 10."

Then I thought... "holly crap, what did we do right?  Let's keep doing that!"  After a week or two, I finally settled down, and remembered that it was because we pushed the status quo of strategic execution...

We delivered accountability structures inside Fortune 100 companies that allowed organizations to capture the deemed "unattainable" business opportunities.  That allowed "failed" teams to strive.  That allowed managers to break through the performance ceiling.  Lastly, we moved organizations because we partnered with those that believed it was possible - the "We go or No go" rule.

We are not just going to sit.  Time to take it to the next level....I hope to hell we fail a few times...giddy up.

"I do not fear failure. I only fear the "slowing up" of the engine inside of me which is pounding, saying, "Keep going, someone must be on top, why not you?""
