| Hot Topic: The Communication Fumble |
Communication is vital to the success of a leader. Every leadership book, workshop, and mentor will talk about two way communication, keeping your door open and being available for feedback.
As leaders, we can sometimes fumble when we do not stop long enough to ensure our message was received. Think of the last time you sent out a communication that gave specific direction for your team to follow. Let's say it is a memo. How many of those you sent the memo to actually received and opened it? Of those, how many read the memo? Of those, how many understood the memo? Of those, how many were committed to carrying out the memo's directions? Of those, how many actually took action toward the goal of the memo?
The communication fumble occurs when we fail to follow up and ask if the objective of our message was heard, understood, and inspired commitment to action.
