Dear BHSU-COHE members,
Hi! It was nice to see so many of you at our recent luncheon meeting this past week. I am sorry I did not have more time to visit with each of you and others who were unable to attend. I just wanted to pass on a few words of encouragement. It is exciting to see the energy at the BHSU chapter. I know that Tim Martinez appreciates your enthusiasm. However, please do not lay it all on his shoulders. To be a viable chapter, you need to hold regular meetings and develop a cadre of leaders.
At this point, I would be happy if you had a President, a Treasurer, a Grievance Officer, and a Membership Director. You are 50% there. I hope two individuals will step forward to handle the latter two tasks to share the work.
As I mentioned to several of you, SDSU is piloting a membership recruitment effort, which we hope to take to other campuses. We need about six to eight COHE members on a campus who commit to reach out to ten potential members each. The goal is to begin/continue the conversation. To find out if they are interested/willing to join COHE. I think in two years, the BHSU chapter will be ready to begin this effort which leads to continuous outreach and communication. For now, I suggest you identify junior and mid-career faculty who may be willing to join. We need to educate a few activists who can form the leadership for this effort!
Your brother in defense of faculty rights,
Gary
