Dear Members,
We often get asked why it takes a whole week to do maintenance, why can't we close for just a few days? Well, there are several reasons for this:
1) The gym floor and dance/aerobics room floor re-finishing process takes about five days and the entire building has an odor that most people can't tolerate;
2) This year for the first time since we opened in 2003, we are acid washing the entire main pool surface so that we can restore its original look. This process is expected to take the entire week. In fact, we are being advised to get a head start on dumping the pool water a day early, so that we are assured that we have time to empty the pool, wash the pool, have fresh water trucked in, and then allow for several days to re-heat, re-treat and filter the new water. This means the pools will be closed on Sunday, August 15, one day before the rest of the facility is closed;
3) It has been our experience that locker room repairs, plumbing fixes, tile repairs, re-grouting, and other locker room cleaning that can't be done while the building is actively being used usually takes the whole week;
4) Painting high traffic areas is also a process that is better done when the building is not occupied;
5) Fitness Center equipment replacement and preventive maintenance also takes more than several days and it is more cost effective to have the contractor do the necessary maintenance and repair in bulk rather than one or two pieces at a time;
6) Finally, there are number of other ongoing repairs to mechanical systems, pumps, and other equipment that would be very disruptive if the building were occupied. There are certainly many more things that get accomplished during this week while the above projects are underway.
We appreciate your patience and trust that you understand the goal is to provide our members with a facility that is clean, safe and operating efficiently.
We look forward to seeing you back on Monday, August 23 at 5:30am. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 860.429.3015. Additionally, please note we will not be renting kayaks or backyard games during shut down week.
