Buckwheat Pancakes
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- ½ cup buckwheat flour
- 4 tbsp whole oats
- 1 tbsp ground flax seed
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil (for batter)
- 2 tbsp oil (for cooking)
In a medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg and 1 tsp oil.
In a second bowl, mix flours, oats, flax seed, salt and baking soda.
Pour the dry ingredients into the egg-mixture.
Stir until both mixtures are incorporated but still a little lumpy.
Let rest for 15 - 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a large frying pan before spooning in the batter.
Form 4 inch pancakes out of the batter.
Once bubbles form on the top of the pancakes, flip them over and
cook for about three minutes.

Greetings!
Yes, Niagara Falls last weekend were absolutely beautiful - as they continue to insist on being themselves even through a Canadian winter of cold, blowing snow and large icy boulders. We took a quick day-trip to breathe in the negative ions and freshness of the falling splash and mist - and ofcourse, some fudge, a garish museum or two and the cozy warmth of a hotel hot-tub ... all in a day's play!
Back to work and Springing into Spring! Spring is about shedding the thick cocoon of winter and emerging renewed into the new and better You - we believe that harnessing the power of your Breath is the fastest way to a new awakening.
If you have tasted the peacefulness of meditation in the past, and want to go there again, Meditation 2 begins next week on Tuesday evenings for 5 weeks. This comes with a Free Yoga pass of 5 classes to encourage the mind-body connection!
A new daytime Awakening Mindfulness course has been added and the Breathwork Seminar is back too!
The squirrels in our front tree are decidedly more playful these days, the pigeons are looking fatter and Ian swears he's already seen the first robin! Sure signs that the season of love is well on it's way - come and join us as we herald in Spring 2011.

Meditation 2
March 8 - April 5 (5 weeks) Tuesday 7:30 - 9:00pm Cost: $150
Pre-requisite: Meditation 1 or previous meditation experience. These five weeks are designed to help you establish a regular practice with weekly guidance and support. We will focus on reconnecting mind and body through sense awareness, as well as introduce chakra, acupressure and other mindful living and healing practices.

Clothing Collection for Haitian Families
After the earthquake in January 2010, 42 Haitian families were displaced to Montreal. Over a year later, many are still having difficulty getting the immigration status that allows them to work in Canada. We can help by bringing in gently-used clothing, (winter/summer, adults/kids), shoes and boots. Collection boxes are in the Studio and the Reception area.
We would like to thank all of you who have already generously donated clothing. All of the donated clothing we received by February 18th was given away at the Maison D'Haiti on February 19th. The deadline for the next collection will be the end of March for distribution in mid April. Thank you for your generous contributions.

What, Me Worry? by Ian Ramsay
It has been said that of all of the addictions, the hardest to give up is suffering. One of the most popular and effective ways people create needless suffering for themselves, (and others), is by worrying. Using yesterday's thinking patterns, we squander our time today worrying about what might happen tomorrow. Worry is constructive if it's about something we can control and if it leads to positive action right away. Worry is an addiction if you repeatedly fret about something you have no control over or when you do have control over what you worry about but choose not to take action.
Some people get righteous about worry. They believe that if they worry enough, something productive will occur. There is no correlation between worrying and effective action. In fact, worrying is what we do instead of actually taking effective action. Here's a memory challenge for you: Try to remember what you were worrying about one year ago today.

Worry article - continued.... by Ian Ramsay
If you study your worry thoughts for a couple of days, you will find that almost all of your worries have nothing to do with reality. Recently, I spent several sleepless hours dreaming up scenarios about how I had offended an acquaintance to explain why he hadn't come over to speak to me at the end of a class that we were attending. We normally chatted for a few minutes at the end of each class and this time he had left without speaking or even meeting my eye. I made a decision to email him the next day to ask if I had offended him and to apologize. He wrote back to say that he had left the class as soon as it ended because he was preoccupied by a misunderstanding between him and his wife. In short, I had worried about something that I had concocted and that only existed in my own mind.
While we cannot stop worrying completely, we can avoid taking worry thoughts too seriously. It is more constructive to notice when and where we worry rather than what we worry about. For example, you may notice that often when you feel relaxed after a while a passing notion will begin to coalesce into a worry thought. If you begin to obsess about it, then you are using worry to limit the amount of positive energy that you allow into your life.
Underlying this behaviour may be an unconscious belief that you are only worthy when you are doing things for others. By relaxing for too long you're in conflict with this underlying belief so you start worrying to get back to doing things for others.
To know if a worry thought is something that you should pay attention to and act on ask yourself:
-Is it a real possibility?
-Is there anything that I can do to make a positive difference?
Most worry is about things we have no control over. A list of things that we cannot control includes; the past, the future, what other people think about us and our feelings. The things we can control are our choices and our actions.
Here's an action that you can take to get out of the whirling hamster wheel of worry thoughts.
- Notice when you are worrying about something
- Let go of worry thoughts by shifting your focus away from them. For example, you can concentrate on breathing deeply or become active to change your state of mind.
- Ask yourself: What positive new thing is this thought trying to bring to your attention?
Worry thoughts can completely paralyze you when you are in their grip if you let them. Realize that you can grip them instead and that you can choose to release that grip and let them fall away. Practice doing this and you'll learn which thoughts you should pay attention to and which ones you can release.
When your unconscious mind runs an old program, you are on auto pilot fully in the grip of your old patterns of thinking and out of touch with your conscious intentions. If you find that you are often worrying, or being self critical, blaming others, getting into arguments, not being listened to, overeating or breaking the agreements that you make, you are mired in your past programming. Growing up is really about becoming aware when this happens and learning how to get what you really want in the present.
