JFYNetWorks held its 7th annual JFYNet Achievement Awards ceremony on May 27th at the Grand Staircase in the State House.
The JFYNet Achievement Awards are given each year by JFYNetWorks to selected schools and individuals that have made significant contributions to the cause of improving student achievement in Massachusetts through the use of the JFYNet e-learning academic support program.
The ceremony was hosted by Senator Salvatore DiDomenico and Representative Martha Walz.
Awards were presented to Shannon Donnelly, Science Teacher at North Shore Technical High School; Sheila Thomas, Computer Infrastructure Teacher at Fitchburg High School; Gayle Roach, Math Teacher at Knox Trail Junior High School in Spencer-East Brookfield; Jean L. Binjour, Jr., Science Teacher at Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Boston; Michael W. Gavin, Instructional Technology Teacher at The Harbor School, Boston; Dianne K. Kelly, Assistant Superintendent, Revere Public Schools; Debra Thomas, Math Department Head at Methuen High School; North Shore Technical High School, Middleton, Daniel O'Connell, Superintendent-Director; Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District, Ralph Hicks, Superintendent; Kim McFarlane, Library Media Specialist at Lynn Vocational Technical High School; Lynn English High School; Malden Public Schools, Sidney Smith, Superintendent; Medford Public Schools, Roy Belson, Superintendent; and Mary Ellen Baron, Senior Administrator for Extended Instructional Time, Springfield Public Schools.
The awardees were honored for their demonstrated capacity for innovative thinking and their determination to create the best possible learning environment for students. They have used the power of technology embodied in JFYNet to make their classrooms a source of energy and hope for their students. They are helping move public education in Massachusetts into the digital age.
JFYNetWorks is a non-profit education and workforce development agency based in Boston. Its JFYNet e-learning program provides instructional technology resources and professional development to 23 schools in 15 districts in Massachusetts. The JFYNet program has been in operation since 2000.
