Students for Sustainability Through Institutional Transformation and Engagement (SSITE)
SSITE is a group of motivated student leaders dedicated to the advocacy of sound environmental policy. SSITE will be meeting weekly during the regular school year to discuss current events, put on educational and empowering workshops, and work on advocacy and outreach campaigns. RecentRecogUCSC Makes the Princeton Review's Green Honor Roll
UCSC is one of the 18 national colleges that made the Princeton Review's Green Honor Roll. The campus scored an extremely impressive Green Rating of 99 out of 100. For more information, visit the Green Rating Press Release.



UCSC Ranks 11th in Sierra Magazine's Cool Schools

The Sierra Magazine recently published its fourth annual ranking of America's Greenest Schools, in which UCSC placed 11th. Read the full article.


UCSC Makes US News and World Report's Listing of Top 10 Eco-Friendly Campuses

UCSC was recognized primarily for its reduction in food and water waste through its tray-less dining and composting programs.  For more information, go to US News and World Report.


LEED LogoUCSC Receives LEED Certification for Cowell Dining Commons
UCSC received its second campus-wide LEED rating for the Cowell College Dining Commons.  This is the very first LEED certification to be awarded for building renovation at UCSC.

Green Office Certification
The Sustainability Office is implementing a pilot program for green office certification. You can make your office environmentally sound while saving money.  If you would like to participate, please contact Olivia Kirklan.

Compost Poster

International Compost Awareness Poster Contest
The contest will run from September 15 until November 30, 2010 and is open to anyone who wants to help promote the benefits of composting and compost use.  The winning poster will serve as a 2011 promotional media piece. For more information, please visit compostingcouncil.org.
