The Second Step Players present. . .
Stand Up for Mental Health - CT!
 | | David Granirer |
On April 3 and 4, 2011 at 7:30 pm (yes, really, Sunday and Monday nights), The Second Step Players are proud to present Stand Up For Mental Health - CT, an evening of original mental health themed stand-up comedy, hosted by David Granirer, founder of Stand Up For Mental Health!
We chose these funky nights because we really wanted to perform at The Spirit of Broadway Theater, and they will be in the middle of their run of River's End on our show dates. We'll be performing in the middle of the very cool set for that show. Artreach is eternally grateful to Brett Bernardini for his flexibility and generosity in arranging for us to present our comedy show at The Spirit of Broadway.
Under the guidance of Vancouver's David Granirer, several Second Step Players have developed stand-up routines - and David himself will be the MC and guest comedian for these shows! This is "Round Two." The comics are doing a second round of writing after our Fall 2010 debut of this project - digging deeper into our psyches and mining for comedy gold.
It's true what they say - you have to be NUTS to do stand-up. Well, if the shoe fits. . . Indeed, this is some of the most difficult writing we've ever done, so come on down to The Spirit of Broadway Theater, 24 Chestnut Street, Norwich, CT to see us jump off the high-dive! It's scary, we could really use your support!
There are only 72 seats in this beautiful little theater, so advanced registration is suggested. General event admission fee is $15.00. Group rates for mental health agencies are available if needed at $10.00. Additional donations are happily accepted! All ticket revenue and donations support program activities at Artreach, Inc.
Please note that if you are registering online for more than one person, there is a "Guest" section - you'll be asked to add all members of your party's first and last names, and to choose the Event Fee or Mental Health Group rate for each person.
For more information, or if you hit a snag with the online registration form, please call Becca or Robin at 860-887-0014.

Inner Peace/Global Peace Poetry and Music Night at Otis Library
Artreach will be very active down at the Otis Library in May, 2011 for Mental Health Month. Our Art Show will be hanging all month long. On May 9 at 6 pm, the Creative Writing group and some musicians will present an evening of poetry and music, and on May 21 at 11 am we will show a movie of the twenty-five year history of The Second Step Players to celebrate our birthday. The Inner Peace/Global Peace Poetry and Music Night grew out of Creative Writing Group. A theme naturally emerged during the writing of poetry: Peace. Inner peace, and global/universal peace. The work was inspiring to those of us who sat together writing in the unfinished brick-walled basement at Artreach. We thought it would be good to share the emerging messages with our community.
Our Artistic Development progam, which includes the writing classes, African drumming, song circles, and guitar lessons, has blossomed these last few years. The classes are designed to help individuals connect with their unique form of creativity and learn to use that creativity to support their recovery. The results are beautiful, and we hope that you will come share in the simple beauty of this poetry and music which was born from a desire for Inner and Global Peace. Click here to register for Inner Peace/Global Peace Poetry and Music Event No admission is being charged for this event. We will happily accept donations to Artreach, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit agency commited to providing adults with psychiatric disorders the opportunities for true wellness and recovery that they deserve, using creativity, Mindfulness, and heart-centered, person-centered connection as our primary tools.

Artreach Music Showcase rehearsals are underway!
Rehearsals are underway for the next Artreach Music Showcase. I'll send an e-mail to let you know as soon as we pin down a venue and some dates. Right now, the focus is on the process rather than the product. When the product (read: the music!) is in good shape, we will be holding a public performance and musical celebration.
Our Tuesday afternoon song circles are continuing, with a mix of Artreach program members and friends from the community who want to try out new songs in a supportive environment. It is likely that in the not-so-distant future, we will have a showcase of ORIGINAL songs to share!
Call Dick Pape at 860-887-0014 if you are interested in having music on YOUR town green or if you know other places for people to play. We bring our own sound equipment! Click here for music program press release. |
