NEW EVENT - Evening on the Land, August 15

MCC working photo

The Gallatin Valley Land Trust will be hosting an exciting event this summer which we hope you will consider being a part of.  This fundraising dinner and silent auction will be a celebration of the treasures and abundance of the land.  At the same time we want to remind everyone of the simple pleasures we all derive from living in the Gallatin Valley. One of the primary missions of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust is to conserve southwest Montana's heritage of open landscapes, working farms and ranches, healthy rivers, and wildlife habitat - all of which we will highlight during the Evening on the Land celebration.

This summer's event will be set on the beautiful property of Deborah Butterfield and John Buck.  We are going to showcase the bounty provided from local harvests while underscoring the advantage of simple farm to table sustainability.  Every effort is being made to work with local farmers, growers, and breweries in supplying delicious food and drink. Publicity materials will be selected from recycled goods. Local music will be on hand to entertain - Little Jane and the Pistol Whips.  The experiences and items designed for the silent auction highlight activities and opportunities (of the land and rivers) that surround us, along with the special talents of those who make this special place their home.

Individual seats - $75
Table (8 seats) - $650
RSVP - August 8th

The photo was taken on one of trails at the East Gallatin Recreation Area off Manley Road. With a chorus of birdsong and three miles of interconnecting trail loops through meadows and aspen groves on either side of the East Gallatin River, the area offers a great outing for all ages.

Funding Secured for Three New Easements

Kimm photo

So far this year, GVLT has secured preliminary approval for funding from the Gallatin County Open Lands program for three conservation projects located near Churchill, on Bozeman Pass, and in our Gooch Hill Focus Area.  They total 1,280 acres of prime agricultural land and wildlife habitat, and these projects will help three families permanently protect prime soils, scenic viewsheds, and wildlife habitat.  GVLT will be working to complete these conservation easements, along with several others, in the coming months.
TRAVELERS FOR OPEN LAND

Click here to find out more about a unique and exciting program called Travelers for Open Land. This is the first statewide program of its type in the country, and it has the potential to provide new resources for private land conservation in Montana.

What Value!

What value do you place on trails and open views? Did you know that fewer than 3% of households in Bozeman contribute to GVLT?  But just like public radio the community trail system is there for everyone to use, every day of the year.  Our scenic valley with its wildlife and productive farms contributes to our quality of life every day. What value do you place on community trails or an open view?  Is it worth 50 cents a day, a dollar a day?  Did you know that you can donate on-line with the option of making a contribution each month?  Break it up, make it automatic and you'll never notice.  Those small monthly contributions will make a huge difference to GVLT.  Try it now

TRAILS DAY - THANK YOU

Cold, rain and fog didn't deter the 80 volunteers who helped with GVLT's Trails Day projects at Peets Hill, Langohr Park and the Triple Tree Trail.  The highlight of these projects was at Triple Tree where we rerouted an eroded section of trail, completing 800 feet of new trail thanks to a large volunteer crew and a generous donation of labor and a mini-excavator by Zac Cavaness and Terry Johnson of Land Tech Montana.  Another highlight was the afternoon award ceremony where GVLT received the Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks' annual "Trail of the Year" award.  Thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors!

Check out the video created by Alex Lussier  showcasing the June 19th fundraiser and ride.

On June 19th, GVLT celebrated the summer solstice this by encouraging the entire community to get out and enjoy the Main Street to the Mountains trail system! During our third annual Longest Day of Trails membership drive we received 148 contributions over a 17 hour period, from sunrise to sunset, while Dan Harding and members of the GAS/Intrinsik cycling team rode their bikes on the trail system. We are very grateful for the enthusiastic support from Montana Ale Works, KMMS The Moose, and many local businesses sponsors.

The event raised just over $10,000 for GVLT, earning a matching grant from Cinnabar Foundation.  We are encouraged that people are realizing that trails aren't a magical gift from a "Trail Fairy" and GVLT relies on continued and generous support to keep growing our renowned community trails system.
