5 Things You Should Know About the 21st Century Student
1) By the end of 2009, nearly 7 MILLION grade school students will have a Facebook account. From 2008 to 2009 HOUSTON, TEXAS showed the highest growth of new Facebook accounts.*
2) About 5.8 percent of the people who use the
Internet speak Spanish, making it the No. 4 language in the Internet
community, following English (51.3 percent), Japanese (8.1 percent), and
German (5.9 percent). Close behind is Chinese, with 5.4 percent,
followed by French with 3.9 percent.**
3) By age 21, 21st century students will have spent 10,000 hours playing video games, sent 200,000 emails, watched 20,000 hours of television, spent 10,000 hours on a cell phone, but less than 5,000 hours reading.*** 4) Currently children 6 and under will spend 2.01 hours a day playing outside, 1.5 hours using a computer, but only 40 minutes reading or being read to.***
5) 21st century learners are multi-taskers who use sound and images to learn, teach, and relay messages.They look to the Internet as the universal source of information.
