CAP Update |
On Thursday, January 27, the Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP) held it's seventh Commercialization Boot Camp. In the past, participants ranging from mechanical devices manufacturers to software application companies have attended. This last event drew roughly 30 people and each left the boot camp satisfied. "I would recommend this for anybody who is developing a product," said businessman Ken MacKinnon. "If you are past the idea stage, this is the place to go!"  The next boot camp is March 1st. His company might go by a different handle nowadays, but Awni Ayoubi is the same visionary who struck gold several years ago when he helped develop the GlideScope technology.
The GlideScope is the sleek and safe video larynscope that Anestesiologists, EMTs and surgeons all over the world use to get a clear, real time view of the patient's airway. It was created by Ayoubi, Dr. Jack Pacey and their team at Saturn Biomedical Systems - which has since been bought out by Verathon Inc.
Since its commercial launch into the market in late 2001, the sales of the product have been hugely successful. It's being used in over 10,000 hospitals across Canada, the U.S. and globally. Read More |
| BCIT Teams Up With Mobile Phone Powerhouse | |

Connecting people has long been the goal and motto of telecommunications giant, Nokia (NYSE: NOK). Now, they can say they've successfully connected with BCIT.
Prior to the Christmas break, BCIT formed a partnership with the Finnish-based communications corporation. As part of an on-going Nokia University Relations program, BCIT has agreed to become part of Nokia's Developer Consultancy Network to provide training and research services to industry.

BCIT Partnership Mission to India | |
In December 2010, the Natural Product Research Group (NRG) led a partnership mission to Bangalore, India to continue building upon collaborations with various Indian stakeholders involved within the Indian Systems of Medicine.
The mission was funded through the Going Global Innovation Program within the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAIT), Health & Welfare India and the National Centre for Natural Product Research at the University of Mississippi.
The partnership mission was held in conjunction with the Indo-US Conference on Methodology of Research in Indian systems of Medicine. Hazrah Moothoo, Research Assistant with NRG presented Health Canada's guidelines for ensuring safety and efficacy of natural health products in for use in clinical trials. Sahail Shariff, Project Leader with the Applied Research Liaison Office (ARLO) presented the advantages to conducting clinical trials on natural health products in order to access the Canadian marketplace.Read More
