Printmaking is an art where an image is created on a plate ( of metal, wood, or plexiglas ), ink is applied, and then pressed to imprint the artwork on to beautiful papers or canvas. Multiple images can be made from the plate to create an "edition" or series of prints.
PRINTMAKING WORKSHOPS With Sue Valentine
Sue will be offering a series of Monotype printmaking workshops at Rosie's Art Locker this spring. These 1-day classes are designed to learn how to create Monotype prints in one session. What is a Monotype? A Monotype is a printmaking process made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The image is then transferred on to a piece of paper by pressing the two together. These prints are very spontaneous, with interesting and surprising results. Monotypes are each, one-of-a-kind.
Each session will be offering different techniques in Monotype printing. These printmaking techniques are safe and non-toxic using water based inks, they can easily be created at home without great expense. Join us and learn a new art technique. This is a fun and easy way to produce your own line of greeting cards and prints.
Sue Valentine has been teaching art and design for 20 years. She is currently teaching drawing and painting for Oregon Coast Community College, and will offer additional workshops this Summer at her own "ArtDreams" studio in South Beach.

Perhaps the hardest aspect of Scherenschnitte is learning to pronounce (and spell) the German name for this ancient craft of cutting paper into decorations. We like to say, "If you can say it, you can do it"
Scherenschnitte is pronounced "SHEAR EN-SCHNIT-AH" and means scissors' cuttings in German. Appearing through the ages in ethnic paper producing cultures worldwide, the cutting of paper into decorations includes: silhouettes; scenes; gift cards and gift embellishments; Christmas decorations; pantry, shelf and mantle papers; doilies and placemats. Brought to America by the German Colonists, Scherenschnitte has maintained a loyal following throughout the years.
Bring a favorite tea mug or cup, have some tea and learn the art of Scherenschnitte (papercutting)
