Welcome to OLLI's 2010-2011 academic year! This issue of the Newsflash will provide you with the information you need to renew your OLLI membership, volunteer for OLLI committees, and complete your Class Request Form for Fall Quarter.  Annual Membership
Connect with Other Curious Minds
We are pleased to announce that the annual membership fee for 2010-2011 will remain just $100. Renew your membership to be able to make unlimited course selections, space permitting, from among 80-90 courses per quarter, attend OLLI Lectures and Forums, and participate in OLLI social activities. A membership application is being mailed or click here to download and print out this form.
Be sure to complete the part of the form that indicates your interest in participating on various OLLI committees. It's a win-win situation. OLLI is member-run, so your help is invaluable, plus the more you become involved, the more you'll get out of your membership.

 Fall 2010 Course SelectionCourse Descriptions Now Online
To read full descriptions of the 95 fall course offerings, click here. You will receive a Class Request Form in the mail, but you may also click here for a copy. On this request form, list
the classes you want in order of your preference, and return it
by the deadline of August 5. We have many classes to choose from this fall, but demand for some classes will exceed the available space. When this occurs, a lottery is performed. Ideally, all members would get their first choice, but please recognize this isn't always possible. If you want one class in particular, consider signing up for that class only, which enhances your chance of being admitted. Also, notice the number of students allowed in each class. That influences the likelihood of admission, and it may change your priority level. Note: getting your Class Request Form in earlier than the deadline does not confer any advantage, because all request forms are processed at the same time, immediately following the deadline.
If you don't find a course on a particular topic in which you're interested, or you prefer that a course be offered at a different location, you can help ensure that this happens in future quarters by recruiting individuals who are willing to volunteer as an instructor on that topic and/or at that location..

 OLLI Giving Program
Show Your Support
When you complete your Membership Application for the 2010-2011 year, you'll note a space for making a tax deductible gift to our OLLI chapter. Your participation in this giving program is important, not only because OLLI at SOU needs funds for the operational budget and capital improvements, but also because a high level of member participation in the OLLI giving program will demonstrate member support to organizations that provide financial grants. Member participation and commitment is part of the evaluation process in determining grant awards. The awards that our chapter has received so far have allowed us to expand our geographical footprint, increase staff, and upgrade facilities. When you fill in the blank, you do more than just help with your dollars. You also help with your presence.
