Greetings!
A warm welcome to returning and new OLLI members!  We are excited to offer a record number of stimulating courses and special educational events this year.  Remember -- OLLI is a member-run organization.  Your active participation as a volunteer will contribute to its smooth functioning and maximize your connection to other OLLI members.
Special Educational Events
...Community Lectures and Community Forums
Community Forum Take advantage of OLLI single event educational programs this fall.  These programs are open to the general public and are a great way to introduce friends to OLLI.

The Community Lecture series is held each Wednesday on the Ashland campus from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  The initial program on September 16 is "The Mount Ashland Story".  Join us in Room D for a behind-the-scenes look at the history and future of the Mount Ashland Ski Area with ski industry expert Rick Saul.

The Community Forum series is held the third Monday of each month from 10:00 am to noon in the Presentation Hall at the Medford RCC-SOU Higher Education Center..  The first program on September 21 is titled "Capitalism: Past, Present, Future".  Gerry Cavanaugh and Harry Cook will exchange views on the fundamental structure of the American economy in a discussion moderated by Chris Honore'.  Refreshments will be served.

Be sure to see the full list of weekly Community Lectures in Ashland and monthly Community Forums in Medford this fall by clicking here.  For more details on the above mentioned programs, click here.
Call for Winter Instructors
Special Northwest Earth Institute Courses
While fall classes are just starting, it isn't too early to think about teaching a course winter quarter.  The deadline for course proposals is October 10.  Click here for details on becoming an instructor.

If you'd like a great way to ease into instructing, the Curriculum Committee is looking for individuals to facilitate discussion courses winter and spring quarters using self-directed study guides from the Northwest Earth Institute.  A facilitator's guide is also provided.  Click here for more information.

Class Handouts and The LINK
Don't overlook member information resources on the www.sou.edu/olli website.  Whether you want to check the room number for a class or get directions to either campus, many answers can be found here.

In order to be more environmentally sensitive and to save administrative time, we will increase our use of the website for many purposes in the future, such as class handouts.  For example, click here and scroll down for select class materials, such as handouts for the Mah-Yongg course.

Starting in November, we will rely on electronic distribution of The LINK for most members.  As you can imagine, this has both environmental and cost benefits.  We will announce its publication in class and link to a PDF file on the website via the OLLI at SOU Newsflash.  Those who do not have access to the Internet will continue to receive a copy via the mail.
