June 2012

Greetings   ,

Things have been a little rough around here, we just got back from a 7 day evacuation due to the High Park Wildfire here in Colorado. The 10 days prior to that we were on pre-evacuation notice. We spent much of June watching the fire from a high point in our association and keeping tabs on the news.

We packed up the trailer with the furniture that was sold and the furniture for the upcoming shows. Then we loaded Chisel, our life-sized steel horse sculpture and the dogs. Our two girls were at camp so we packed Jill's car with the cat, rabbit and everything else and left the mountain. It was not an easy thing to do, and this becomes very evident when you have a home based business. There is much more to think about than just your belongings.Thankfully due to the change in weather and firefighters efforts, our home and business were saved.

It was amazing to be involved in a natural disaster such as this and we have a new appreciation for others and what they are going through. The community and volunteers were awesome and supportive through the whole process. The Humane Society took in our dogs and everywhere we turned people were helping people, we just can not say enough about the volunteers and our friends.

Overall 57 homes were lost in just our subdivision. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone effected by the wildfires. A picture taken of Dwayne made the CNN news, at last check he was slide #26 click here to see.

Dwayne's Artist Statement:

My sculpture is a reflection of my desire to create challenging show-stopping pieces of art. I choose to work with metal because of its durability and longevity. Being able to stop a horse in action, capture and maintain the definition of its muscle structure and strength is my greatest reward. I am challenged by the complexity and beauty of the horse and with each piece I try a more complex stance. I work with stone, steel, copper, stainless steel & aluminum.

Artist Statement

My rock chairs have been compared to something found on the set of the Flintstones, but great care is given to ensure they are both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The stone added to discarded steel results in functional furniture inspired by Mother Nature. They are not only weatherproof, but integrate easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty.
