April 2012

Hi   ,

Things are in full swing around here!

We have been busy booking shows and making furniture. We are always working on new designs and making improvements on old ones.

We're happy to say spring has finally returned to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. We heard our first hummingbird of the season and had a black bear stop by to visit, which is when our very brave, but not so smart, dog took off running through the invisible fence at full speed after the bear! Luckily we were home and able to call him back. The summer is proving to be off to an exciting start!

Our dog Scamp, who thinks his name should be changed to Champ for saving us from the bear :)

Soon we're expecting a special delivery from Asia. A crate containing slabs of beautiful highly polished Black Granite will be landing at our shop. These pieces will be transformed into 3 piece sets of furniture. If you have had your eye on these beauties, let us know we are currently taking pre-orders for anyone who wants to own one of these beautiful sets of furniture. The supply is limited.

Deep Seating Black Granite
Also limited, is our polished Green Marble. We only have a few large pieces left for coffee tables and 6 Wine Buddy pieces, once it's gone, it's gone. The supply has run out at the quarry and we are not able to carry it anymore. It's beautiful with an natural orange color on the outside.

April is Earth Day:

Bar Set Spring

Never has there been a time  when "Green" was more popular. Everywhere you turn it seems that someone is talking about sustainability and earth friendly products. Way before it was cool to be "Green" Stone 2 Furniture was building beautiful furniture that compliments the environment it is in and doesn't harm the earth. At Stone 2 Furniture everyday is Earth Day!

With spring warmth in the air and Earth Day on April 22, families are taking a closer look at the sustainability quotient of the patio furniture they lug indoors and out twice a year. Because of the harshness of sun, wind, hail, pool chemicals, tanning oils, mold and mildew, nearly half of consumers expect their outdoor furniture to last only five years or less, according to a 2009 survey by Casual Living magazine. Stone 2 Furniture has created a surprising solution to the outdoor furniture madness. Furniture that won't fade, rot, disintegrate or blow away in a storm, includes no toxins, requires no maintenance and can last more than a hundred years

According to Dwayne,

"we've taken something that is already 200 million years old and combined it with the durability of recycled steel or rust-free aluminum frames for furniture that can withstand all the harsh damaging elements Mother Nature can dish out."

Working with Mother Nature, Dwayne has fashioned comfortable, visually striking, one-of-a-kind tables, chairs, benches, bistro sets, chaise loungers and bar sets out of flagstone, green marble and black granite.

"This is not mass produced in a factory. Each piece is handcrafted, made one at a time, with no harsh chemicals and no impact on the environment during the process." says Dwayne. It does not take any harsh chemicals to maintain it, just hit it with a hose and it is done. Its worst enemy is birds.

Stone furniture actually becomes more beautiful with time, unlike other furniture that cracks, peels, fades, etc. Clients are not going to be back in five years to replace their furniture. They are going to be adding pieces to their collections. Stone furniture integrates easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty. Environmentally friendly stone furniture won't end up in the landfills, instead it can be handed down as an heirloom for the next generation.

For customers concerned about the carbon footprint of transporting stone furniture to their home from Colorado, Jill notes,

"Any furniture you buy requires shipping, but ours isn't coming from overseas. And because stone furniture lasts for generations, it needs to be shipped just once. In addition, no vinyl, plastic or foam rubber goes into stone furniture and it doesn't need plastic or canvas covers for protection from the elements. We also ship using just a pallet and shrink wrap - no cardboard, bubble wrap or other cushioning materials that need to go to the landfills."

Idaho Gray Swivel Bar Stools

This Bar Set just went to Pennsylvania, our clients sent back this wonderful comment:

Dwayne,
Just got the furniture today about 1 PM.  It is beautiful!  Trudie and I just had a beer on it after uncrating and putting in place.
The FEDEX driver couldn't believe sitting on stone would be comfortable so I had him try out the love seat.
He was convinced!
You really did a nice job on these and I know we will enjoy them for a long time.
Everything came through with no damage, not even a rub or scrape.
Thanks for putting your name tag on the chairs.
Now we'll have to plan a party to show it to our friends, maybe cinco de mayo, margaritas would go nicely on the stones.
Thanks again, will send you pictures in their new home.
Bill and Trudie

Here is a clip of Dwayne making a table base and wrapping metal around the legs. Make sure your volume is down :) It's noisy in the shop.

My sculpture is a reflection of my desire to create challenging show-stopping pieces of art. I choose to work with metal because of its durability and longevity. Being able to stop a horse in action, capture and maintain the definition of its muscle structure and strength is my greatest reward. I am challenged by the complexity and beauty of the horse and with each piece I try a more complex stance. I work with stone, steel, copper, stainless steel & aluminum.

Artist Statement

My rock chairs have been compared to something found on the set of the Flintstones, but great care is given to ensure they are both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The stone added to discarded steel results in functional furniture inspired by Mother Nature. They are not only weatherproof, but integrate easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty.

Ok, so the new website is not up yet, but we have made some improvements to our site and you will be able to purchase the "Wine Buddy" tables directly from it in the near future.

Until then, feel free to call us to place orders or share your thoughts and suggestions we would love to hear from you.

In the next issue we will have photos of a custom handrail that Dwayne has been working on and a gate.

Best wishes,

Dwayne & Jill
