I have been busy working in the shop creating new pieces or art. I just finished a V-Twin Engine sculpture. I had a great time making this piece and I named it Buttonhead V-Twin.
I have also been working on two chaise loungers and a fire pit for a couple of clients, and some smaller pieces for upcoming shows. The summer is quickly filling up and I will be traveling to many of the Colorado ski towns for art festivals. My schedule also includes a stop in Park City, UT and Lake Tahoe, CA. Currently I have 7 shows lined up. The first is Denver, Colorado over Memorial weekend.
In this newsletter I have pictures of a custom vanity base that I did for a client at the Lyons Design Group in Edwards, CO. Check out the photos below. And a special Earth Day offer! |

Custom Work:
Our client at the Lyons Design Group in Edwards, CO. commissioned us to build a custom vanity base for a bathroom remodel. They sent us photos and sketches that I worked from to create the custom base. I welded steel to make it look like branches and they found a piece of Mahogany wood for the top and the stone bowl. Then they put it all together and installed it.

Solid as a Rock and Earth Friendly Too!
It is said that necessity is the Mother of all invention and no where could this be truer than with Dwayne Cranford and his Stone Furniture. Out of desperation to have outdoor furniture that wouldn't rot, rust, blow away or wear out, Cranford created durable long lasting stone furniture that will last a life time, is beautiful and comfortable.
Cranford didn't think about starting a business making his durable furniture, he just wanted something for himself that would look good in his backyard and he wouldn't have to replace every couple of years. However when neighbors, friends and family got a look at this unusual furniture they started placing their orders. Soon Cranford couldn't keep up with the demand and he quit his job to start his own business, Stone 2 Furniture.
To say the Stone Furniture is durable is an understatement. The furniture is sturdy enough to withstand anything Mother Nature throws at it, from hail, snow, sun and rain to hurricane force winds. The furniture will last a life time, most likely longer, and requires very little care, a quick spray with the hose will do it.
But is it comfortable? "Comfort is everything", Cranford contends. "What would be the point if it wasn't comfortable? I make everything to support the contours of the body." Cranford says people are shocked the first time they sit in one of his one of kind stone chairs or loungers. The most common comment heard from first timers is, "This is amazingly comfortable. I can't believe it."
Not only is Cranford's Stone Furniture beautiful and durable, it is friendly to the earth as well. Cranford uses metal that often have had a first life as a piece of farm machinery, a car part, trunk spring or was metal being used on the railroad. The Stone was made by Mother Nature herself. According to Cranford, "We've taken something that is already 200 million years old and combined it with the durability of recycled steel for furniture that can withstand all the harsh damaging elements Mother Nature can dish out."
Cranford started out wanting to create furniture that was long lasting and durable. He has exceeded his dream. Stone furniture goes beyond just being durable; it actually becomes more beautiful with time unlike other furniture that cracks, peels, fades, etc. Fulfilling his dream of long lasting clients are not going to be back in five years to replace their furniture, they are going to be adding pieces to their collections. Stone furniture is not intrusive; it integrates easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty. Perhaps the most important factor is Stone Furniture is Earth friend. Made from recycled and natural materials Stone Furniture won't end up in the landfills, instead it can be handed down as an heirloom for the next generation.

Dwayne's Artist Statement
My sculpture is a reflection of my desire to create challenging show-stopping pieces of art. I choose to work with metal because of its durability and longevity. Being able to stop a horse in action, capture and maintain the definition of its muscle structure and strength is my greatest reward. I am challenged by the complexity and beauty of the horse and with each piece I try a more complex stance. I work with stone, steel, copper, stainless steel & aluminum.
Artist Statement
My rock chairs have been compared to something found on the set of the Flintstones, but great care is given to ensure they are both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The stone added to discarded steel results in functional furniture inspired by Mother Nature. They are not only weatherproof, but integrate easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty. |
Thank you to everyone for supporting the arts.
Hope to see you this summer at the upcoming shows.
Have a great month!
Happy Earth Day & Easter.
Best,
Dwayne & Jill
