Even Snowmen Like Stone Furniture!

Thank you Kim & Christie for this great photo!!
|
Hope your new year is off to a great start! We are starting to line up shows for the summer. Looking back at last year we did 7 shows, 4 were good and 3 were not. That means this year we will have to be more selective with our shows. At this point I have two shows lined up, Carefree, Arizona and Kayenta, Utah. I am on the wait list for Oklahoma and Bayou, Texas. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get a call telling me to head on down! The show circuit can be very difficult for artists. We have to apply to all of the art shows and be invited to exhibit. We send in our jury fee along with photos and descriptions of our work and hope that the people on the jury find our work worthy enough to be exhibited at their venue. We can never guarantee where our shows will take us, but with a lot of work we can try to put together a good schedule for the summer. I have been super busy creating new pieces. Right now I am building a large fire pit with stone chairs around it. Then I will start making furniture for the Arizona and Utah shows. In the meantime I have been looking for some good galleries to display smaller sculptures in. |

Idaho Flagstone Stools with Arms & Footrest |

Close up of Swivel Bar Stools |
These stools were custom built to take advantage of the amazing views from the window. They swivel 360 degrees and are full of stories. The frame is a leaf spring off a truck, the base is an old farm plow disc and the foot rests are railroad spikes. Definitely a conversation piece!

Detail of Fire Pit with Propane Tank |
This is a work in progress. I am building a propane fire pit that will have stone chairs around it.
There will be a custom cut flagstone top that will go around the burner to create a table. Before I add the stone I have to send it to powder coating for them to coat the metal the color my client selected.
After I get it back I will fit the stone table on it, the middle of the stone will be cut away for the fire pit.
I will have the completed photos in next months newsletter. Let me know if you would be interested in a custom fire pit. |

Dwayne's Bio
As a child Dwayne spent hours cutting and shaping pieces of cardboard paper to create 3D models of motorcycles. Carefully forming each part to fit the bike perfectly and create a replica of an authentic motorcycle. Dwayne's artist talents emerged at a very young age. A self taught artist, Dwayne S. Cranford, a Colorado native, learned his welding skills in a foundry and took them with him to serve in the United States Army. Later Dwayne spent his days installing natural gas pipeline. On his days off as a hobby he began applying his welding skills to create steel sculptures. His figurative sculptures are created from materials such as bike chains, concrete nails and scrap steel that had been discarded. Eight years ago he began combining stone with the metal to create durable, weatherproof furniture.
Dwayne's wife Jillian, helps out in the shop with assembly and picking up supplies. Her other duties are maintaining the office, website, bookkeeping, marketing, sales, pr relations, shipping and more. The construction of the furniture is done solely by Dwayne & Jillian to ensure the quality and consistency.
Cranford's work has been shown around Colorado, Nevada, California, Texas, Wyoming, Minnesota and in other parts of the United States. It can be found at The Pine Haven, Estes Park (CO), The City of Lone Tree, (CO), City of Heath, (TX), The Best Western Pioneer Court, Lusk (WY) Sedona, AZ and numerous private collections.
Artist Statement
My rock chairs have been compared to something found on the set of the Flintstones, but great care is given to ensure they are both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The stone added to discarded steel results in functional furniture inspired by Mother Nature. They are not only weatherproof, but integrate easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty
