Greetings!

Greetings Friends!

The warm weather is finally here in Colorado and it's so nice to work with the doors open.

Right now I am in Texas picking up my new flatbed trailer. I got rid of my other trailer that had sleeping quarters and downsized for several reasons. First was to save on fuel and it is less stressful pulling a flatbed then a 40 foot covered trailer. Also I wanted to show off the horses, and there is no better advertising than having 2 life-sized horse sculptures going down the highway at 75 miles an hour. We sure do turn some heads. Keep watching and you may see us somewhere on the road this summer.

Speaking of summer, I just added a few more new shows to the lineup. Check out my list below.

I am excited to announce that I have partnered up with a local woodworker to create a new line of furniture! This new style of furniture is based on the same principles that I have always believed in; earth friendly, longevity, unique and beautiful. But this is no ordinary wood, it's salvaged Beetle Kill Pine.

As you may know there is a beetle problem in Colorado. They attack the pine trees destroying them and all that is left behind is a dying tree. The tree turns orange and then becomes a fire hazard. Businesses have come up with creative ways to salvage the wood. Some companies are making wood pellets for pellet stoves, but I have created furniture.

Using the same high quality materials as the stone furniture, I have incorporated the aluminum frames with hand honed blue stain slabs of beetle kill pine. When beetles have taken over a tree they leave a natural beautiful blue stain in the wood. We have taken the tree, cut it into slabs, so that you can actually see the rings in the tree and shaped it to sit on. As a final touch I have inlayed crushed turquoise into the cracks. This new style of furniture is created for interior areas and will provide years of beauty. To learn more click here.

How to Place Stone Furniture
.

Sure......it sounds easy, but there are a lot of things to consider when placing stone furniture. Weather you have a small area or a large area to fill here are a few tips that will make planning easier:

1) Location: pick an area that you enjoy and want to spend a lot of time.

2) The view: if you are going to spend a lot of time sitting in an area make sure that the view is something that you love.

3) Weather: the sun and wind play a lot into placing stone furniture. If this is an area that you will spend more time during the early morning hours then you will probably want your furniture facing east to warm it. If you are going to be out there at high noon think about having shade to keep you from getting too hot. You can put your seating under a tree or have an umbrella in a stand that is readily available to pop open. In the evening stone furniture will retain heat and dissipate it after the sun has set. This is a great feature and sitting in chairs that have warmed from the sun is a great way to settle into star gazing.

4) Deck: stone furniture is perfectly fine to set on a deck. The main thing to remember is that you will probably have a railing in view and therefore would probably want to go with a bar set. This will put you up over the railing and give you a better view.

5) Open Setting: the beauty of stone furniture is that you can set it anywhere and this includes the boonies. It can be set in a forest, under a tree, by a pond, on top of a mountain, or on a trail. It does not require any maintenance, its not going to blow away, and it will always be there waiting for you to take a rest.

6) Swivel or not to Swivel: there are many times when swivel chairs are a must. When sitting in an area that you want to enjoy 360 degree views, its worth investing in swivel chairs. It is also great to have swivel stools at a bar or in a small space.

7) Placing next to a pool: the first piece of furniture that comes to mind is the chaise lounge. Perfect to lay in and take a nap or read a book. Dining Sets are great by a pool too so that you can enjoy snacks and drinks next to the pool.

8) In the garden: place a bench in your garden for enhancement and relaxing. A bench under a tree is nice or put 2 back to back under a tree to enjoy views in all directions.

9) Public Areas: at the office or in a public location, a bench works great because we build them to be secured to the ground and they also accommodate several people at one time. The solid picnic tables are great in the courtyard at the office.  The average weight on a set with 4 stools is 2400 lbs. These sets are not going to disappear.

10) Fire Pit: Deep Seating stone chairs are best around a fire pit. They are flame retardant and no maintenance is required. They are sloped back for a comfortable relaxing sit.

11) Your favorite spot: the Deep Seating chair in Stone works everywhere and you can add an ottoman to kick your feet up to read and relax.

Regardless of where you place your Stone Furniture, you will have years of comfort and relaxation with no maintenance and never a worry that your furniture will blow away, crack, chip or splitter.  Stone Furniture is a great way to enhance the surrounding beauty of nature and increase your enjoyment of your favorite spot.

Note from our client about his furniture:

Dwayne and Jill,

The chairs look great.  We hope to be moved in next week and can't wait to enjoy our first sunset from them.  We hope to see you in Colorado this summer.  Thanks again.  After all those years of admiring your work, we are thrilled to finally have your chairs (and to finally finish our new house).  Alan and Sam

Dwayne's Bio

 Dwayne Getting Rocks

As a child, Dwayne spent hours cutting and shaping pieces of cardboard paper to create 3D models of motorcycles. Carefully forming each part to fit the bike perfectly and create a replica of an authentic motorcycle. Dwayne's artist talents emerged at a very young age. A self taught artist Dwayne S. Cranford, a Colorado native learned his welding kills in a foundry and took them with him to serve in the United States Army. Later Dwayne spent his days installing natural gas pipeline. On his days off,  as a hobby he began applying his welding skills to create steel sculptures. His figurative sculptures are created from materials  such as bike chains, concrete nails and scrap steel that had been discarded. 7 years ago he began combining stone with the metal to create durable, weatherproof furniture.

Cranford's work has been shown around Colorado, Nevada, California, Texas, Wyoming and in other parts of the United States. It can be found at The Inn At Aspen, Aspen (CO), The Best Western Pioneer Court, Lusk (WY) and numerous private collections.

Artist Statement

My rock chairs have been compared to something found on the set of the Flintstones, but great care is given to ensure they are both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The stone added to discarded steel results in functional furniture inspired by Mother Nature. They are not only weatherproof, but integrate easily into landscapes and cityscapes without intruding on the surrounding beauty.

Thank you to all my supporters, you are the most important part that keeps me going!
