Stabenow, Levin Announce Grants for Seven Fire Departments Across Michigan
SLT gets $141,119 grant for recruitment
WASHINGTON - U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both D-Mich., announced today that seven Michigan emergency responder organizations will receive grants through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program. The funding will be used to help address a variety of equipment, training and other emergency needs. The grants will total $1,874,908.
"Michigan's first responders valiantly protect our communities and families," said Stabenow. "This funding will allow them to operate in a safe and effective manner."
"These grants respect the courage and hard work of our first responders, and they will help make Michigan communities safer," Levin said.
Grayling, Grant Township and Huron Township fire departments will receive grants for operations and safety through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The AFGP awards grants directly to fire departments and emergency medical service organizations to improve the effectiveness of operations and health and safety programs, and to establish or expand fire prevention programs throughout the United States. Grants are awarded competitively through an application process.
Additionally, Spring Lake Township, Roseville, Hazel Park and the city of River Rouge fire departments will receive funds from the SAFER program. Funds under the SAFER program are intended to support the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
