Congratulations, Jeffers Elementary!
Jeffers Elementary School has been named an official Michigan Green School. The school had to earn the designation by reducing, recycling, renewing and reusing materials with a focus on helping the environment. The Green School program is run following a 2006 act of the State to create the Green School designation. There are 20 possible activities for a school to complete, and the school must complete at least 10 to qualify.
Great job, Jeffers! |
Stormwater Information
With the coming of spring and rain, it's time for a reminder about stormwater runoff. While rain is valuable, stormwater is rain that has bypassed its natural pathways and picked up pollution. Many small sources of pollution can add up to a much larger problem
Spring Lake Township has many articles about stormwater management on our website. We are also participating in a stormwater reduction project with Grand Valley's Annis Water Resource Institute. Check out the information at

Ottawa County Citizen Budget Meetings - May 4 in Spring Lake Twp
During the month of May, Ottawa County will host five citizen budget meetings throughout the county. The goals of the meetings are to educate citizens on the budget and services of Ottawa County and to receive feedback from citizens on their priorities as we move into the future. The information gathered from the meetings will be presented to the Board of Commissioners as an additional tool in the preparation of the 2010 budget. After all of the citizen budget meetings have been held, staff will compile the information and post the results on www.miottawa.org.
Each meeting should last approximately 1.5 hours, but will vary based upon the amount of time devoted by each small group to the discussion questions. Following the discussion questions, participants will prioritize different broad service categories.

Ottawa County Prescription Drug Card Ottawa County residents will soon be eligible for the FREE Ottawa County Prescription Discount Card. The Health Department is already noticing a great deal of public interest and is acting quickly to get the cards into the hands of residents. The department will launch the card on June 1 with a series of informational community meetings where cards will be readily available. After June 1, cards will always be available at Health Department Offices, at miOttawa.org and at locations throughout the County such as senior centers, public agencies, and human service providers. Due to the call volume we have already received, we have set up an informational hotline. The number is 393-5632. This information is also available on miOttawa.org.
About the Card: There are no income or age restrictions, there is no expiration date for the card and the card is free. There are over 2,000 participating pharmacies state-wide, and most major chain pharmacies accept the card. To use the card, residents must check to see if their pharmacy accepts the card using the website, www.michiganrxcard.com, or by calling the pharmacy. When a resident submits a prescription, they must tell the pharmacist they want to use the Ottawa County Discount Card and present the card. The discount will be applied. The discount amounts vary with an average savings of 35%. The card may be used in place of prescription insurance but not with the prescription insurance. A common question we find is "How will this help me if I have the Medicare Part D prescription program?" If a resident enters the "donut hole" during the year, this discount card may provide prescriptions at a reduced cost. If they use the discount card, it will not give them credit to get through the "donut hole". Residents will have to determine if using the discount card will help in their particular situation.
