Dear Friends and Fellow HCF Members,
On October 12th, at the last Annual General Assembly, a new Executive Committee was elected for your club and you have been kind enough to re-elect me as president for another year. Let me say that I feel honored and privileged to be here, surrounded by a refreshed and energetic Committee now representing most schools of our alma mater : Harvard College of course, but also the Harvard Law School, the Harvard Business School, the Harvard Kennedy School, the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, the Graduate School of Design... A few more still need representatives on board and we'll be working on it!
Just a year ago, President Drew Faust was in town - I am sure some of you remember her address at the prestigious Hôtel de Lassay- and was truly impressed with our activities and, dare I say, professionalism. True, we will remain an association and a friendly club run by volunteers but we aim at the very best. We would like outsiders, whether they are from the campus or from other organizations here in France, to keep fond memories of our events.
Once again, please keep in mind that the Harvard Club of France relies exclusively on its members' annual dues and donations. Our goal for the year 2011-2012 is to increase by at least 30% our membership so that we can offer even more events in great venues. I count on you to spread the word among your Harvard friends and classmates: the HCF is their home away from home, we need them as full members of the community.
A simple click on our website allows them to join our community, receive the monthly newsletter, and register for some of the wonderful activities currently in the pipe line in the months to come: we will host Astronomy Professor Alyssa Goodman on Wednesday November 9th, launch "Harvard Women in France" on November 23rd and welcome all members to our legendary Holiday Party on December 13th. You can already mark your calendars. And, on January 18th, the Harvard Kennedy School newly-formed French chapter will welcome one of the school's celebrity professors. This will be a good way to start a very political year, with presidential elections taking place on both sides of the Atlantic. Updates on this, and more, will follow.
As always, all suggestions and ideas are welcome and you may always contact the Committee via our friendly Club Coordinator Courtney Pulitzer , or feel free to write to me directly at president@harvardclub.fr
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Warm regards,
Philippe
