Building a Sustainable Economy Lecture: Retail in the 21st Century with Adam Siegel
The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) recently published an industry-wide sustainability report which discusses retail's environmental, social, and community impacts. Adam Siegel, VP of Sustainability & Retail Operations at RILA, will focus on the trends and practices local Bainbridge businesses can draw from the study. Hosted by the Chamber, Bainbridge Graduate Institute, Sustainable Bainbridge and the Bainbridge Public Library.

The store will be packed when reader favorite Jim Lynch is joined by Crosscut magazine's Mossback, Knute Berger, to talk both fiction and fact about the 1962 Worlds Fair -- and more!  Lynch's classic and hugely entertaining political novel, Truth Like the Sun, spins a cat-and-mouse story of urban intrigue in Seattle both in 1962, when Seattle hosted the World's Fair, and in 2001, after its transformation in the Microsoft gold rush. Berger has just penned his newest book, put together for the 50th anniversary of the Seattle icon.
David A. Hecker - Full Circle: A Journey in Search of Roots Sun., May 20, 3 PM
David A. Hecker, Ph.D., a Bainbridge Island resident and former faculty member at Olympic College, presents his debut memoir, a story about his 24-year search into family roots. The journey took him to many western states and the western provinces of Canada, to Germany, the Ukraine, and Argentina.

Want to shop and help our fabulous Bainbridge Public Library? We will donate 20% of all book sales between 5 - 7pm today to Bainbridge Island's Friends of the Farms, a non-profit with a mission to preserve and enhance local farming. From the Harvest Fair to educational projects to land-use planning expertise to the farm apprenticeship program on the Island, Friends of the Farms is ready to help our community retain this important asset. Saying the Unsaid: Subtext in Fiction with Michael Overa. It's not always what is said and how it is said in our fiction, but often what isn't said. We'll look at how writers convey information by writing "between the lines."
