Bainbridge Island Wooden Boat Festival

Sun, June 5, 10 AM - 2 PM
The first annual Wooden Boat Festival on Bainbridge Island, hosting 25-30 special wooden boats that are all owned by BI residents. The festival will be a celebration of the historic and present day wooden boats that continue to help characterize the life we live on Bainbridge. This special event will include the boats and their owners along with special speakers talking about wooden boat construction, design, maintanance and more. COUNTDOWN TO ZERO is a lively cinematic presentation of the history of the atomic bomb, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and the race among nations to join the nine that currently possess nuclear capabilities. Concert: Peter Spencer Sat., June 25, 8 PM
Peter Spencer celebrates the release of "1896," his latest album of original songs. The concert will feature the rare 1896 Washburn guitar used to record the all-solo album. "I wanted to have the feeling of the great folk/blues albums of the early '60s," Peter says. "These were live recordings done on portable recording machines, where Eric Von Schmidt or Bert Jansch or Dave Van Ronk would sit in their kitchen or living room and record an album in an afternoon." The novel is based in part on a real-life Nazi expedition to Tibet in 1938, and an actual Nazi search for a fabled power source before and during World War II. Beginning with chilling meetings with Heinrich Himmler, it soon interweaves with the story of Rominy Pickett, a contemporary Seattle woman whose car blows up in a Safeway parking lot.
