Paddle Around Bainbridge Sat. & Sun., Jun 5 & 6, 8 AM
A fundraiser for BI Land Trust and Washington Water Trails and a great way to see our island and its shoreline from a different perspective and encourage us to preserve it. Bring your own camping gear and kayak, canoe, row boat or shell, or rent a kayak or a seat on 36ft Tribal canoe "Hemoo". There will be a safety boat with EMT's. Day 1: Fay Bainbridge- Eagle Harbor- Blake Island. Day 2: Blake Island- Crystal Springs- Fay Bainbridge. Cost includes 2 continental breakfasts, 2 lunches, dinner and show at Tillicum Village, BBQ on Sunday eve; snacks & beverages on rest stops, overnight camp fees. Matinees That Matter: Citizen Architect Sat., June 5, 5 PM
The late Samuel Mockbee was an architect, a teacher, and the force behind Auburn University's Rural Studio, a design program that aims to both educate students and improve an impoverished Alabama community. This 60-minute documentary shows that there's more to buildings than their aesthetics. Issues of poverty, class, education, community involvement, and civic responsibility are all examined.
