Sacred Rocks Reserve
Advice From The Purple Mountain Sage
To increase your enjoyment of living:

1. "Always forgive your enemies - nothings annoys them so much." -Oscar Wilde

2.  Reserve now! Two nights for the price of one.  Come watch the Perseid Meteor showers this weekend at Sacred Rocks Reserve [August 14 - 16]. The park is at an elevation of just under 4000 feet, far from city lights and the coastal glare from Camp Pendleton; the property offers a clear vantage point from which to view the stars. For a list of events this weekend and more information on the "Star Party" click here.

3. To watch a meteor shower, be prepared to spend a few hours sitting outside!  Meteor showers can be seen as soon as it gets dark, but optimal viewing begins about 11pm. You will want to go some place far away from large cities, because light pollution makes it impossible to see the night sky clearly. Give your eyes 20 minutes to adjust to the dark before gazing towards the corner of the sky where the meteor shower is expected to appear.  You may want to use binoculars, but they are not necessary. While you're outdoors, you may also want to look for constellations, stars, or planets using a star locator or guide book. (c) Home Science Tools
