Advice from the Purple Mountain Sage
To increase your enjoyment of living:
1. "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on" - Robert Frost
2. Trade forks for chopsticks, because "you are forced to eat more slowly and deliberately, which makes you consume less and feel fuller," says Wansink. "Plus you eat less per bite than you would with a fork." Wansink studied normal-weight and obese diners at Chinese buffets in three states and found that chopstick-users are much more likely to be slim than obese. (c) Health Magazine, August 2008
3. The latest secret weapon for protecting your bones: the Mediterranean diet! Eating meals rich in fish and olive oil and low in red meat may preserve bone strength, according to a study in Nutrition. Though the authors say more research is needed to poinpoint the reason, they suspect anti-infammatory compounds found in fish and olive oil that boost heart health may safeguard your skeleton as well.
