Following in the recent footsteps of other retail giants, Five Guys Burgers and Fries is the latest big chain to set up shop in Elk Grove--and business is booming! Since opening the Elk Grove location in October of last year, the eatery has been more successful than any other location the franchise has opened in the Sacramento region.

"Our franchise group has just arrived to the Northern California area, and out of the four stores we've opened so far in the Sacramento region, the one in Elk Grove is the busiest," noted general manager, Alan Pagano. "We're topping in sales right now. We've got a pretty good store here."

Five Guys is one of the hottest franchises in the country with more than 550 locations in 35 states, and joins a fast growing lineup of users at Laguna Pointe--a mixed-use suburban lifestyle center offered by Jackson Properties, located immediately off Highway 99 in the heart of Elk Grove's business district.

"Elk Grove is a popular area and people really love us. Locating here was a good decision," said Pagano. "Laguna Pointe is right off Highway 99 and Laguna Boulevard and it's pretty busy area over here. There's a lot of shopping in this area and a lot of residential neighborhoods close by"

"With Laguna Pointe being a mixed-use center, it definitely helps in the fact that there are also office spaces here and folks who need a meal half-way through the day," said assistant manager, Brandon Stevens. "This gives us steady business with repeat customers. We do no advertising. Word of mouth is very important to us, so the mixed-use area definitely helps out business quite a bit."

Five Guys Burgers and Fries #1The eatery's local management is quick to praise Laguna Pointe property owner, Jackson Properties, for their support in launching the franchise in Elk Grove.

"Jackson Properties has been fantastic. They have helped us out with everything we've asked for and they were excited to get an anchor inside the shopping center with a decent following that would bring in lots of traffic through the area," added Stevens. "If anyone is looking to open up business at Laguna Pointe, now is a good time to do it. Businesses will get a lot of foot traffic as lots and lots of people come here to eat at our store."

"Elk Grove is a great place to be," said Stevens who has lived in the Elk Grove area his entire life. "There is a good mixture of people here and the population is very diverse. The school district is one of the better districts in the region, safety is better here, and I really feel a lot better about raising my kids in Elk Grove as opposed to Sacramento," said Stevens. "Elk Grove is one of those places where people have lived here a long time and they're really close and tied in to the community."

Five Guys is just one of several top name chains that have recently located to Elk Grove as the City continues to offer fee deferrals and aggressive economic incentive programs for new businesses opening in the area. Burlington Coat Factory, Henry's Farmer's Market and Pinkberry are among the big names that have expanded business to this part of the Sacramento region. Automobile dealerships have followed suit with the recent additions of Ford, Subaru, Mazda, and Kia stores, and Toyota recently greatly expanded its customer automotive services. These dealerships will soon be joined by Fisker Automotive that will sell the $87,000 luxury plug-in hybrid Karma sedan.

Five Guys is looking forward to a major growth spurt on the west coast during the next few years. The Elk Grove franchise alone has a 66-store deal that will range from Fresno to the Oregon border.

"We have some pretty aggressive plans for growth around California and will possibly even open another one in Elk Grove," said Pagano. "We've opened four stores in four months in the region. We don't plan on slowing down any time soon!

"You can let any business know that Elk Grove is a great place to come and do business," added Stevens. "There is more disposable income within the city than most places now a days, especially in the Sacramento area. Elk Grove is very nice and well established. People in Elk Grove have the money to spend to keep a business open."

"After my husband and I had children we moved our business here. We love the school district, plus I can drive from home, drop my kids off and come straight here in 15 minutes," said Jennifer Nunez, owner of Taglio Salon and Spa. "Laguna Pointe is right off highway 99--you can literally see it from the highway. It's a good central location that is easy for customers to get to. We're right in the busiest part of Elk Grove, so if anyone has any errands to run it's all right here in one spot. It was a natural choice for me to put myself in the heart of what's going on in Elk Grove."

Another bright spot for Laguna Pointe's retail community is the millions of dollars being spent on medical expansion close by, providing vast opportunities for professionals in the medical field and their clientele.

"We selected Laguna Pointe for our Reddy Medical Services and Reddy Urgent Care office because it is the gateway to the medical centers of Elk Grove with Sutter Health, Kaiser Permanente, U.C. "When the economy hit us, we were able to move into this smaller footage place that still allowed us room to grow. They have done a lot in helping to promote us, and our neighbors here in the plaza, as we keep growing. They worked with us to develop the space into what we needed it to be. We worked with their architects and they put out signage to promote the business. They also put a lot of advertising out there to promote Laguna Pointe as a whole. Not a lot of landlords will do that."
