Shared Medical Services

Employees' Donation Drive

The employees of Shared Medical Services in Cottage Grove voted to collect donations from our Wish List during their annual holiday charity drive. The cheerful group in the photo delivered their wonderful gifts for families to our office!  Their donation included 2 large boxes of books and toys, $720 in gift cards for gas, meals and groceries, and a check for collected donations of $640!   Shared Medical Services' mission is "to create lasting partnerships in the healthcare community and to provide the best possible care to every patient with our exceptional staff and our state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology."

Mad Rollin' Dolls Support

Local Kids With Cancer
With March 31st Ticket Sales

Mad Rollin' Dolls, Madison's Premier Roller Derby League (Motto:  Hurt in a Skirt) has chosen Badger Childhood Cancer Network as the charitable partner for their March 31st bout at the Alliant Energy Center!  Purchase tickets online or at any of several local businesses.

We're looking at getting tickets to the bout for teen patients and survivors as a fun way for them to get together for an evening out.  If you are a teen who would like to go, or know one who would, email Anne!

Badger Men's Basketball Makes Special Time for Kids!

Coach Bo Ryan and UW Men's Basketball invited 10 cancer fighting kids to attend a practice at the Kohl Center on January 14th.  After watching the team go through their drills and practice, the kids got to meet the players and Coach Ryan, get autographs and pose for photos! Some of the players were able to stay and shoot hoops with the kids - wow! The kids and their parents were treated to dinner afterwards at Lucky's Grille by Badger Basketball Alumni.  Many thanks to Coach Ryan, the team and the National W Club for this wonderful experience!

Hero Beads Bring Smiles and Honor the Courage of Kids With Cancer

We asked in last month's newsletter for submissions of photos showing young people with their Hero Beads. We got various responses including "What are Hero Beads?" "We want to start collecting Hero Beads!" and some great photos.

Here's a stunning photo of a teen with her strand of beads that is at least 12 feet long!  Each of those hundreds and hundreds of beads represents a test, treatment, procedure, new drug, or personal milestone reached over the course of her cancer journey. It is humbling and awe inspiring to see it!

To learn more about the Hero Bead program, visit the Hero Bead Page on our web site.  If you have a child with cancer who would like to start collecting beads or needs to catch up on them, send an email to info@badgerchildhoodcancer.org   and we'll help you get what you need.  And if you have a photo of your child or teen with his or her beads, we'd love to see and share it!
