The 2nd annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Blood Drive, hosted by Prairie Creek Community Church in Sun Prairie, was VERY successful!  The Sun Prairie community really stepped up to give!  THANK YOU to them, and to the wonderful Robyn Jeffords who did such a great job putting the whole thing together and helping to educate the community on the huge need of childhood cancer patients for blood products!

In addition to the blood drive and bone marrow donor drive, they also held a silent auction of great items to benefit BCCN and presented us with a $260 donation!

Kappa Psi Pharmacy Student Fraternity Panel Discussion

BCCN Executive Director Anne Spurgeon took part in an informative panel discussion on Sept. 21st, hosted by Kappa Psi, a fraternity for UW Madison pharmacy students.  The panel, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, allowed dozens of pharmacy students to ask questions and engage in a great dialogue with panel members to learn more about the treatment of childhood cancers and what kids with cancer experience during their months or years fighting the disease. The panel also included AFCH pharmacist Vicki, Peds Heme-Onc nurse practitioner Kristin and patient dad Mike.  Kappa Psi members presented BCCN with a generous donation collected from students who gave $5 each last semester for a 'Dress Pass' to be allowed to dress casually on a weekly lab day!

Lucas Likes the Badgers!

Lucas Badgers

A generous donor gave a pair of Badgers vs. South Dakota Football Tickets to BCCN for the use of a childhood cancer patient.  Lucas is a big Badger fan and got to attend his first game ever with his dad!  Lucas is doing to leukemia just what the Badgers did to South Dakota - winning a crushing victory!

We Offer Our Grateful Thanks to

550+ runners and walkers enjoyed a beautiful morning on September 4th at Keva Sports Center in MIddleton, supporting local kids with cancer!  Event Emcee, Channel 3 news anchor Sarah Carlson brought joy and energy to the stage, welcoming everyone and setting the stage for an exciting event.  Honorary Race Chair Suzy Favor Hamilton got the crowd warmed up before the race, cheering and dancing, then leading the kids in our Pirates and Princesses Kids Race!  THANKS, SUZY!

Registration fees and generous donations fund our essential services that support local families of kids with cancer.  The funds you raised let us assist families with car repairs, utilities, gas cards and groceries, rent or mortgage payments and other basic expenses.  It will let us continue our monthly support groups, our popular Hero Bead program, New Diagnosis bags with comfort items and information for kids and parents, Ashley's Med Kits, and our parties and social events for kids and families who need a break and some fun with others who understand what they're going through.

Our deepest thanks to Honorary Starters Jessica, Victoria, Nelson and Kaylee and their families for stepping forward to represent all the kids and teens in our area who are fighting cancer. These four young people have faced tougher hurdles than most of us will ever have to endure, and have done it with a lot of courage. They are our heroes.

The International Charter of Rights For Young People With Cancer

The International Charter of Rights for Young People with Cancer is a global internet-based initiative set up by
five charities from across the world. They are calling on the international community to recognize that access to
quality cancer care is a right, not a privilege, and to improve the services and support that young people
diagnosed with cancer receive, regardless of geographical location.
