Articles of Interest

for Patients and Survivors

Management of Cancer-related Cognitive Dysfunction

This article (in pdf form) examines the phenomenon of "chemo brain," the attention and memory deficits that are often

experienced as an effect of cancer treatment, and gives an overview of current theories, assessment tools and clinical management of the problem.

Late effects in survivors of teenage and young adult cancer: does age matter?

Teenage and Young Adult-specific risks are seen in cardiac toxicity, second malignancies, pulmonary complications and psychosocial difficulties when compared with older or younger cancer survivors. The authors conclude that research needs to be done that looks more carefully at late effects in this age group so physicians can help survivors better protect their long-term health.

Chronic Health Conditions in Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer

This important article originally appeared in late 2006, but has been the topic of a lot of recent parent discussions. It is an overview of health and quality of life data collected on adults who were treated for cancer as children and teens between 1970 and 1986.

Surgical technique helps adult male survivors of childhood cancer regain fertility

A new study has shown that a surgical technique can effectively locate and extract viable sperm in more than one-third of adult male childhood cancer survivors who were previously considered sterile due to prior chemotherapy treatment.

Springing Into Spring
Bouncing in the castle

The Spring Party at Keva Sports Center in Middleton on March 12th provided kids and parents the chance to run, jump and play and spend some great time together.  Baker Sarah Ross provided beautiful, delicious hand-decorated

cupcakes!  Our teen volunteers helped with crafts and games, applied rub on tattoos and kept the party hopping.
