Prairie Creek Church Blood Drive in Support of Childhood Cancer Awareness -- August 6th
Did you know that children and teens with cancer require a LOT of blood products? High-dose chemotherapy kills off good blood cells along with cancer cells, so cancer kids DEPEND on infusions of red blood cells and platelets. Donate a pint of your healthy blood and help us raise awareness of childhood cancer at the same time!
Friday, August 6th 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Prairie Creek Community Church 6484 North Bird St. Sun Prairie, WI
Appointments are recommended and can be made online at www.redcrossblood.org/badgerhawkeye Our sponsor code is 4465

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
--Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in the United States
--46 children are diagnosed with cancer each day in the U.S.
--Treatments for childhood cancer are very aggressive and can last for extended periods of time. A boy with average risk acute leukemia spends nearly 3 1/2 years on chemotherapy to cure his disease.
--Children and teens treated for cancer can be faced with a lifetime of complications because of the harsh treatments needed to cure them. They must be carefully followed for decades to assess the impact on their bodies of high-doses of drugs and radiation.
--Over 20% of children diagnosed with cancer will not survive their disease.
--Families who have a child with cancer face extended loss of income because a parent must provide care for the child, at the same time as their expenses soar.
--The gold ribbon is the symbol of childhood cancer awareness.
