Get to Know a Kid Fighting Cancer
 Hi! My name is Blake!
I am a Tiger Cub Scout. I live in Illinois and I have a spinal cord tumor. I am on a T-ball team. Last year I had a toy drive, and donated
them to the outpatient clinic treasure chest. Total count of toys donated is 504 so far, and we still have more at home! We want to do another toy drive this year. We asked Blake a few questions:
What's your favorite animal? Tiger! What's your favorite movie? Monsters vs Aliens What's your favorite game? Checkers What's your favorite place to go? Chuck E. Cheese Who is the silliest person you know? Dad What's your favorite sport? Football What's your favorite food? Black olive and cheese pizzaYou are a champ, Blake, and we're proud to know you!

Super Kid Leads The Way
Candlelighters' kid Zach has done tremendous things to help other kids with cancer, even as he is fighting a tough battle of his own. NBC Channel 15 did a great story on Zach - the text of it is online at their web site. This 10 year old dynamo has shaved heads for St. Baldrick's Day and did an amazing job inspiring his school to take part in the March Million Penny Drive. Read and enjoy! NBC15 Link
National Organization Changes Its Name
Our national parent organization, Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, was formed in 1970 by parents of children with cancer who lobbied to get research funding on childhood cancer into President Nixon's "War on Cancer" legislation. They formed a support network for families that led to information sharing and emotional support for tens of thousands over 40 years. In the pediatric oncology world, "Candlelighters" has always meant "support for kids with cancer and their families." In the larger community, though, it has been hard for the organization to build awareness and raise funds with a name that doesn't clearly say what they do. After considerable thought, the national organization has introduced its new name, "American Childhood Cancer Organization." To see the new name and logo in action, visit the web site at www.acco.org Capital Candlelighters will continue to get our great books and Hero Beads from the national organization and work with local groups in the ACCO/Candlelighters network to share best practices in programs and services for our families.
