Happy New Year!
We were excited to host our largest-ever Holiday Party in December at Sacred Heart School in Sun Prairie. We had RSVPs from 66 families - a total of 180 kids! We enjoyed delicious food prepared for us by LMNO'Pies Catering and served by members of the Italian Workmen's Club and Italian-American Women's Club, did craft projects, played bingo, and competed in some serious Guitar Hero battles! The busy and the bouncy had fun dancing and playing games with Chris Parrish (the awesome DJ from Blackmoon Entertainment who donated his time and talents to help us shake our groove thing) and taking turns piling in and out of the jumping castle. Santa was with us for over two hours, visiting with kids and families one by one, giving out gifts and getting hugs. Don't miss the pictures!
We're starting a new feature in this newsletter, Get To Know A Kid Fighting Cancer. We hope you'll enjoy reading what kids and teens have to say about living, learning and growing while going through the unique experience of battling cancer. Our first interviewee's remarks were translated for us by Mom and Dad because she'd rather smile and chew on the keyboard than answer a bunch of silly questions.
If you are (or someone you love is) a young person fighting cancer, we'd like to make space for you in a future newsletter. Email us and we'll send you a list of questions. The world is waiting to hear from you!
Survivors and bereaved families, we'd love to share your stories, too.

Million Penny Drive 2010 March 1-31
Our
2010 "Million Penny Drive" is ready to roll!
The drive will take place throughout the month of March. Our
goal is to raise the equivalent of 1 Million Pennies ($10,000) to fund our programs that provide families of local kids with cancer with support groups, financial assistance, gas cards, social events, informational materials and our popular Hero Bead program. It's lots of fun, and when schools get involved it's a great way for kids to show their support for kids who are battling cancer.
Can we 'count' on your help?
Let's meet our goal, one penny (or nickel,
dime, quarter, dollar) at a time! It's easy to register and easy to do a coin drive for a day, a week or the entire month.
Please
follow the link to our Million Penny Drive 2010 web site to learn more
about how your school, business or community group can participate in
the drive!

Get to Know a Kid Fighting Cancer
Meet Charlotte!
Hi! My name is Charlotte and I have Stage IV Neuroblastoma.
How old are you? I will be 1 year old on Febuary 11th!
When did you start treatment? On June 24, 2009 at just 4 months old. What makes you happy? I like to play with cell phones and listen to music. I also enjoy playing with blue gloves and puppies. What makes you mad? I don't like it when someone tells me no or I don't get my way. Who's your favorite nurse? It's hard to pick just one nurse since I've had so many .... I love them all especially nurses Kali and Lisa. What should people know about your big sister? My Big sister is the funniest person I've ever met and she loves to make me laugh. Hats or no hats? Have a favorite one? I love hats although I usually don't wear them, I sure like to play with
them. My favorite hats are the fuzzy ones I got from Keegan's mom. Thanks, Charlotte!

Kids with cancer and blood disorders depend on a regular supply of blood products to stay healthy. They need donors from all ethnic groups and blood types. It's safe, you get cookies and you'll feel great about it! January is National Blood Donor Month and February is National Time Management Month. So make some time soon and go donate blood!
All the best,
Anne Spurgeon Executive Director

. . . because kids can't fight cancer alone!
