Steve and Karla Stoffelson - Directors of Casa de Refugio
Steve answered God's call to missions after a short term mission trip with 'Fe Viva' in 2002. He left his home in St. Catherines, Ont. and began working with Guatemalan youth groups, assisting in church music ministries, and the Children's Program. Now he and his wife, Karla, head the Street Ministry in Casa de Refugio, reaching out to the homeless and forgotten ones. They have a passion for souls and travel far and wide preaching and sharing the Good News of Jesus' love. This dynamic duo travel, preach, and encourage the people of Central America to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. (Each newsletter a person and ministry will be featured)

Greetings!
I (Kim) just returned from a week of ministry in San Jose & Los Angeles. Traveling with me was Pastor Darcy Dube from Delta and Pastor Robert Morales from Guatemala. We had a wonderful time with Pastors and their congregations from several churches, encouraging and uplifting them in the Lord. It was clear to us that the purpose of our trip was to bring a word of encouragement and unity to these churches and their congregations. It was difficult for many churches last year. Many people are struggling with fear and anxiety with what the future holds. We brought a message of hope and expectation. God is clearly saying He is about to do some amazing things for His church. We are turning a corner in the River of God that will bring new blessings, greater unity and a higher level of vision and direction.
Pastor Robert is the apostle over a couple of the churches we visited. He was challenged to move forward with the apostolic anointing he has been given and step out in the grace of God. Today is the day to step out in the new things of the Lord. This word is for the entire Body of Christ. Those who step out will see greater blessings: those who step back will fall behind and lose momentum.
Please pray for these pastors and churches, that they will step out in faith and continue in the grace they received this past week. Lynn and I are more excited than ever to be returning to Guatemala on February 1st and initiate the new wine and new vision God has shown us for Fe Viva and for the Body of Christ. We covet your prayers, support, and unity for 2010.
"Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might."
With all our love,
Kim & Lynn Weiler & the Fe Viva Family.

Medical Team

From January 22 to 28, Fe Viva had the priviledge of hosting a wonderful medical team of approximately 40 people from Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Oregon, Florida, New York and Honduras. They worked mainly with a church in Guazacapan and surrounding areas. They were able to minister life to hundreds of people in this area and help with many medical and dental needs. They did have some challenges over the week; by not getting the many containers of medical supplies released by Guatemalan customs until the last day. However they did receive them and were able to disperse these important medicines to the many people that they had seen.
Here are two testimonies of how this team brought change to lives:
One family came to a clinic and the mother was complaining of a sore back because she had to carry her daughter around who was severly handicapped with cerebral palsy (or something similar). When the medical staff saw that this mother was carrying a 100lb girl everywhere, their hearts were touched and they wanted to do something about it. They were able to provide the family with a wheelchair and present it to the father later that week. The father was really impacted by this blessing.
A man, Alfredo, who is in the House of Refuge had been tongue tied since birth, over 40 years. He had been made fun of and called "mutey" because he could not talk very well and was very hard to understand. He became an alcohol because of all the rejection from so many people. Only because his tongue was tied to the bottom of his mouth. He could not stick his tongue out or touch the top of his mouth with it. One doctor was able to do a 5 minute procedure to cut free underneath his tongue and help him be able to talk. He will need to do a few months of speech therapy, but he is already speaking clearer. Praise God.
Thank you to this medical team for all the work they did and may God Bless you. |
