- Psalm 82:3-4 -

 "Justice"
Little girl behind the barbed wire: She lives in a barrio in the slums of Managua, Nicaragua. She peeks through the wire that 'protects' her shack
home from predators. She attends the Fe Viva Christian School. Attending school gives her hope for a future to break the cycle of poverty that she was born into. Her heart cries out for justice for each child who goes to bed hungry, sick and forgotten.

The man kneeling in prayer:
This man once lived on the streets of Chiquimulilla, Guatemala.
His family is gone; his life destroyed by drugs and alcohol, but now he is part of the House of Refuge.  He cries out for justice and redemption for the life he's lost. He believes restoration comes through prayer.

The people in Juba, Sudan:
This group of refugees, wanders the land, with no belonging, because all has been stripped away through violence, greed, and war.  Their future depends upon the help of others outside their country. The cry for justice from their torn
nation and the 4.5 million countrymen displaced by war.

The ladies in Aweil, Sudan:
These women cry for justice on behalf of their sons, husbands, fathers, brothers and friends who have been murdered at the hands of soldiers. Their hearts long for peace and restoration
of  a life, where they no longer live with fear, hunger, sickness
and hopelessness.

The Sudanese woman:
She represents the millions of nameless, faceless, forgotten ones across the earth, with no one to speak out for justice on their behalf.

Artist:  Tangelyn Shields
This composition started as a photo collage created as  graduation gift for a lawyer based on the scripture verse Psalm 82:3-4.

As I prayed into what to create, God opened my eyes
to something deeper;  the souls' of millions crying out
for help.  I began to pray on their behalf, and the eyes
of the men, women and children in the photos began to "sink deep" into my heart.  The revelation of this hopelessness brought the scripture verse to life.   "Oh God rescue them!"

God was so gracious in giving the vision for this composition and He deserves all the glory and honor.  My desire is that this composition will cause you to think of the "bigger picture".  Of the
millions of people who are displaced, hungry, afraid and have no hope. That it will open your heart to the possibility that you can
impact a nation right where you are and that you are a
part of God's plan to bring hope to His people.

All proceeds of the purchase of this print go towards  Fe Viva's work with the poor and destitute.

2009 Canadian G.O.D. Walk

Because every child has a Destiny!

This Fall people across Canada will be putting their feet into action to help other children in the nation of Guatemala. They will be participating in the Guatemalan Orphans Destiny  Walk (G.O.D. Walk) in Kingston, ON, Spruce Grove, AB and Kelowna, B.C. This walk is in support of Fe Viva World Missions Childrens Homes with the goal to raise support and awareness for orphaned and abused children in Guatemala.

Fe Viva supports 2 Children's Homes in Guatemala. Casa Esperanza (House of Hope), located on the Fe Viva Base in Chiquimulilla, Guatemala, and Casa de Alabbanza in Villa Nueva, outside Guatemala City. (Fe Viva partners with Third Day Worship Centre from Kingston, ON and Shaddai Church In Villa Nueva in the creation of Casa de Alabbanza).

Casa Esperanza was built in 2004 and rescues children who are orphaned, abused, neglected, or simply unable to be supported by their parents. These children are handed over by the courts and many are put under permanent guardianship until they become adults. While in the home, the children live in safety where they are loved and cared for. The home provides food, shelter, clothing, education, medical/dental care, counselling, and legal fees, in custody situations.
Casa Esperanza can house up to 50 children and rescue 10 children temporarily until a safe alternate home can be found. Presently there are 35 children in the home. Primary care is provided by 12 full-time Guatemalan house parents and support staff. Casa Esperanza provides these children with a hope for the future and is dedicated to see children restored to become the future leaders in their generation. Casa de Alabbanza is opening Fall 2009.

Rigoberto(10), Denis(8) and Paola(7) are 3 of these children. They are from the neighbouring country of Honduras and have been in the home for over a year. Because the legal and welfare system in Central American countries are not like Canada, they face many problems our children would not. For example, both the Guatemalan and Honduran governments do not want to claim them at this time, and if they are never claimed their report cards and grades in school will never be recognized which will not allow them to graduate or go to college. These basic rights are harder to get due to the education system. Also, recently their "father" was murdered due to the lifestyle he lived. These are just 3 children of many who face huge odds just to survive in Guatemala. Fe Viva's Childrens Homes rescue children out of abuse, rape, extreme, poverty and more; so there is hope and you and your children can help.

Some of the children walking answered the question, "Why would you like to do the G.O.D. Walk?"

Tobi
(age 10), "Because I want to help support children in Guatemala so they can have a hope and a destiny."

Jess (age 7) "Because I want to help support children so they're not sick (having lice or cavities or that sort of thing). And I'm walking so I get good exercise!(laughter)

Arielle (age 5), "I want to do the walk for Elsa.(her sponsor child) I want to make sure Elsa has good food. I'm glad we sent a dolly to Elsa."

Rianne (age 3), "I really want to help people be good."

The Rise Up Girls

Rise Up Girls

In the fall of 2008, four teenage girls took up a challenge; to make a difference in their world. Two of the girls, 13 year olds Denver Hutchinson and Abbie Bennett, from West Kelowna, B.C. started reading a book called, "Do Hard Things" by Alex and Brett Harris and together, they got a vision to do more and Do Something Hard.

Denver and her mom, Sue, had been to Fe Viva in Guatemala in 2006 and were attending a Fe Viva presentation in West Kelowna about Fe Viva's work in Sudan.  After prayer and discussion, Denver and her 3 friends started planning and implementing fundraising events to help the 700+ Orphans in need in Sudan. Their first fundraiser was a bake sale and concession where they raised $265.00. Then they did a bottle drive where they raised over $200.00. Then seeing how they could have more of their friends and family involved, Denver approached her Tae Kwon Do club who agreed to run a Kick-a-thon, where they raised over $1500.00.   During the summer, with donations from their church family, they also held a garage sale, where they raised $573.  With a vision to change children's lives in Sudan, these girls have raised over $3,800; with a goal to raise $15,000 by Christmas 2009.

We want to celebrate these girls and how they have inspired and are inspiring their friends and school mates to make a difference in this world. You know what? You can too! We at  Fe Viva believe that you can be the change for those who need hope and Christ in this world. There are many ways that you can do it and you and your children can start today. Just ask God what to do. To find out more about what these girls are doing check out their website: www.riseup-ministries.org

These are some of the words that have inspired Denver and her friends:

"Maybe there are things you just can't know, maybe there is more than meets the eye, maybe we are entertaining angels... angels unaware."                                        ~Michael W. Smith "Angels Unaware"~

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." ~Hebrews 10:23-24~

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."                                     ~1 Timothy 4:1~

They are also planning a 'Sudan Walk' in conjunction with Fe Viva's 'GOD Walk' in Kelowna, B.C. and they'd love anyone in our local area to participate. You can contact the Rise Up Girls at info.riseup@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.

On Saturday July 25, in Spruce Grove, Alberta, children painted, drew, sculptured and colored for Fe Viva's Casa Esperanza Children's Home. Thank you especially to Kari-Lynn and Gil Hastman and there kids, Levi, Seth and Aleah-Lynn for all the work they put into setting up the day.
