Nelson & Melissa Mejia - Youth Ministry, Sponsor Family Program and Ministry of Helps

Nelson & Melissa reach out to the community, visiting youth and sponsor families on a weekly basis. Each week they invite the youth of the community to gather for an evening of fellowship, Bible study and worship. They provide encouragement and Biblical teaching in areas of challenge to our sponsor families. They also provide devotional evenings with the children in Casa Esperanza and assist with teams, grocery shopping, and office assistance.

"Justice" Portrait Fundraiser

Justice Portrait
"Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy deliver them from the hand of the wicked."
- Psalm 82:3-4 -

Print  - $39.00
Framed  - $49.00

 "Justice"
Little girl behind the barbed wire: She lives in a barrio in the slums of Managua, Nicaragua. She peeks through the wire that 'protects' her shack
home from predators. She attends the Fe Viva Christian School. Attending school gives her hope for a future to break the cycle of poverty that she was born into. Her heart cries out for justice for each child who goes to bed hungry, sick and forgotten.

The man kneeling in prayer:
This man once lived on the streets of Chiquimulilla, Guatemala.
His family is gone; his life destroyed by drugs and alcohol, but now he is part of the House of Refuge.  He cries out for justice and redemption for the life he's lost. He believes restoration comes through prayer.

The people in Juba, Sudan:
This group of refugees, wanders the land, with no belonging, because all has been stripped away through violence, greed, and war.  Their future depends upon the help of others outside their country. The cry for justice from their torn
nation and the 4.5 million countrymen displaced by war.

The ladies in Aweil, Sudan:
These women cry for justice on behalf of their sons, husbands, fathers, brothers and friends who have been murdered at the hands of soldiers. Their hearts long for peace and restoration
of  a life, where they no longer live with fear, hunger, sickness
and hopelessness.

The Sudanese woman:
She represents the millions of nameless, faceless, forgotten ones across the earth, with no one to speak out for justice on their behalf.

Artist:  Tangelyn Shields
This composition started as a photo collage to create a graduation gift for a lawyer based on the scripture verse Psalm 82:3-4.

As I prayed into what to create, God opened my eyes
to something deeper;  the souls' of millions crying out
for help.  I began to pray on their behalf, and the eyes
of the men, women and children in the photos began to "sink deep" into my heart.  The revelation of this hopelessness brought the scripture verse to life.   "Oh God rescue them!"

God was so gracious in giving the vision for this composition and He deserves all the glory and honor.  My desire is that this composition will cause you to think of the "bigger picture".  Of the
millions of people who are displaced, hungry, afraid and have no hope. That it will open your heart to the possibility that you can
impact a nation right where you are and that you are a
part of God's plan to bring hope to His people.

All proceeds of the purchase of this print go towards  Fe Viva's work with the poor and destitute.

Rally 4 Life

2011 Rally4Life...
Our entry will be in 2011. Our start is today!

One of the largest traveling carnivals in the world is how some competitors describe what is known as The DAKAR Rally.

For Mark and Jackie, it provides the anchor for a viral/grassroots marketing campaign aimed at raising $4 million for two charities, Fe Viva (FeViva.org) located in the Okanagan in Canada's British Columbia and Just A Drop (justadrop.org) located in the UK.

The two selected charities run efficient and desperately needed programs in places like Nicaragua, Sudan, Equador and other countries in desperate need of sanitation, support and guidance.

In a recent "recce" trip to Africa, Mark rode a motor bike through a village where 150 babies had been lost to dysentery in a 4 week period. "This is such a simple problem to fix" states Jennings-Bates, adding "for just a few dollars per person, organizations like Fe Viva and Just a Drop can provide enough clean water for the life of that baby, it means that every person can make a difference"

In order to be successful, Mark, Jackie and their team of supporters and volunteers need to reach 200,000 people in a viral campaign that will ensure the success of their fundraising objectives.

Canada has been represented in the DAKAR by a few Canadian bike riders, the first of which to finish was Lawrence Hacking. This will be the first time ever that a Canadian has entered a car in this prestigious event.

The event covers a total distance of 10,000km in some of the harshest environments a person could travel through. Success is designed not to be guaranteed. The organisers purposefully plan the routes, the long days and arduous driver meetings to mentally and physically defeat you. Only 30% of the typical 500 plus entrants make it to the finish line.

In order to develop a culture of "pushing to the limit" Mark and Jackie felt it was important to "push to the limit" for worthy causes and do something for a change in communities that desperately need our help.

Join us if you will on this important endeavour.

Family in Inaugural Village of Faith Home

The Village of Faith house is now finally finished with just a few touch ups in caulking & painting. This house became more of a challenge then anticipated but, with patience and perseverance we now have a very happy family who live there. It was quite a process to find the right family for this first home. This is one of 18 homes planned for this project and so we were also looking for a family who would oversee and take care of the property and become landlords as more houses are built. We believe that this family also has the potential to become care group leaders of this community in the future.

Saul & Nancy Martinez have 5 children, Oscar-16, Maria-14, Veronica-13, Jocyln-12, Edwin-6 & Saulito 1. They just moved in the area of Poza de Agua last year and were renting a house down the road. This christian family have attended a church in Chiqui for the last 8 years as their work permitted. Their girls sometimes join us at our church now. This family is very poor and they own very little of personal possessions. This would have been the 2nd year that the children were not able to go to school if the Lord did not intervene. FeViva was able to help with some of the school supplies and Patricia & I helped with uniforms and start up fees etc. Both parents work but is either seasonal or part time. With the high rent they were paying, they were always struggling just to put food on the table. Now this family has the ability to eat and put their kids to school with minimal help. Due to the responsibility this family has on the property, their rent & utilities is payment for their contribution and work.

Thanks to the all who were able to contribute towards this project.

Casa Esperanza Transition Stories

Marcelino

Marcelino came to us about nine months ago, with his sister Anna. He has since requested that he be returned to his mother. We began to process his request and prepare the papers needed for this change. We had the understanding that he was not under protection, and that it would be fine for him to return home and to be a help to his mother as he has 5 younger sibblings other than Anna. We proceeded to bring him to court and have his mother regain custody of him. During the hearing the Judge discovered some information that did not allow for Marcelino's return to his Mother. The Judge asked to speak to Marcelino alone, and asked him where he would like to live. Much to Marcelino's surprise he told the judge that he would like to go to Casa Samuel as they have more older boys there, and here at Casa Esperanza we have lots of little ones. The Judge granted his request, and he is now living at Casa Samuel, and studing at night school. We will give him some time to adjust and then go to visit him. The Lord works in amazing ways, we continue to trust him as his ways are higher then ours. Please pray for Ana as it is difficult to be with out her brother.

Pablito

Pablo is one of the babies that was living in Casa Esperanza. He went to live with family almost 2 months ago now. We attended  his court hearing May 7th in a town called Jutiapa, it is about 2 hours away. We were not apart of this hearing directly, but we waited and prayed outside for the judges ruling. The Lord works in mysteries ways. Before the hearing could get under way, the social worker got called out on an emergency. She left all her information with the child's representive, but the judge would not allow the hearing to proceed . This social worker  had been working directly with Pablo and his grandma. She is actually the one who broke the law by allowing the grandma to have Pablo for 3 weeks when the Aunt and Uncle had custody. The Judge ruled that Pablo be returned to the aunt and uncle until another hearing can be scheduled. The grandma was furious, and shared her feelings with the judge, he was not impressed and he told her he was getting tired of seeing her and dealing with her. We know that the Lord reigns over all, especialy the little children. Please continue praying with us for the best situation for this little boy. We know that the Lord has set him apart and has called us to go to battle for him. The aunt and uncle have decided they don't want Pablo anymore as it is causing to many family problems. So at this point Pablo's options are going with the Grandma or coming back here with us. Please pray for the Lord's favor and good and perfect will for this precious little one. We did get to spend some time with Pablo that day, he looked distressed and not his happy, smilely self. It took him a while then he remembered us. The Lord Reigns. Continue to pray for Pablo that he will be placed in the best circumstances for him.

If you would like to sponsor a child and help change a life go to our website: www.feviva.org and under the Guatemala tab you will find sponsorship information.

Casa Alabanza
Fe Viva is pleased to announce that together with Third Day Worship Centre in Kingston, Ontario, we are purchasing and renovating a new Children's Home in Villa Nueva, Guatemala!  This new work is a partnership with Third Day, Fe Viva and Pastor Robert Morales' church in Villa Nueva. This work will help address the problems with inner city youth on the streets, and children in crisis situations that need our help. Please pray for this work to proceed without hinderance. If you wish to give to this work, you can send a cheque to Fe Viva at our home-office address, or donate on-line through our website www.feviva.org  Please indicate "Casa Alabanza".

Fe Viva was also host to the first Guatemalan fundraiser on Tuesday, May 26th, in Guatemala City. Guatemalan business men and women were invited to a breakfast presentation in the Camino Real Hotel. There they heard testimony from four of our Casa Esperanza kids, Steve and Patricia Peters, directors of Casa Esperanza, and from Kim Weiler and Darcy Dube. It was a great "First" event of its kind in Guatemala. We hope to cultivate a greater awareness in the Guatemalans to begin to "care for their own". There was much positive feedback and we believe there will be many new partners from this event.
