Did You Know?

hamburger

Why is it called a hamburger if there's no ham in it?  Legend has it that in the early 1800s German merchant noticed during a trip to Asia that the nomadic Tartars softened their meat by keeping it under their saddles. The motion of the horse pounded the meat to bits. The Tartars would then scrape it together and season it for eating. The idea of pounded beef found its way back to the merchant's home town of Hamburg where cooks broiled the meat and referred to it as it as Hamburg meat.

German immigrants introduced the recipe to the US. The term "hamburger" is believed to have appeared in 1834 on the menu from Delmonico's restaurant in New York but there is no surviving recipe for the meal.

Market Research Pays Off

Last week I got a call from Margie Centrone, Marketing Director, from Rock N Resort in North Lawrence, Ohio.  Margie informed me Rock N Resort advance ticket sales were doubled from last year- a great piece of news in these troubled economic times or any time for that matter.

Is this an opportunity for a gratuitous plug for T.E.A. Productions?  The answer is "but of course."  One of the messages that we attempt to convey to prospective clients is that buying talent from a proven and established production company is about more than just buying talent.  Take the case of the Rock 'N Resort, the festival is going into its sixth year, with T.E.A. Productions producing for the second year.  When we met Margie and the owners of the festival, we not only presented them with the talent they could buy for their budget but also gave them a site inspection, a demographic study and a marketing analysis.  It was the combination of these reports that will inform and shape their event for the years to come.

Prior to our initial meeting we did a study of the event and were able to put together a Long Term Marketing Plan that would ensure much higher visibility not only in their primary market, which we identified, but secondary and tertiary markets as well.  This plan has paid dividends for them already. Last year was the largest attendance in the five year history of the event and this year is jumping off the charts in early sales.

The bottom line: if you have an event for which you would like to see more growth or are thinking about starting a new event, contact us and take advantage of our 22 years of experience and 1000s of events we have helped produce.

For additional information about how your event may be affected by the current economy and more, contact me at thibault@teaprod.com or 612.543.1384

moondance jammin' country
Moondance Jammin Country is based in Walker, MN and is in its third year.  Jammin Country is in Minnesota's north country and is absolutely stunning with its pine trees, lakes and blue skies combining to make the fest attendees visit a memorable one.

2009 lineup includes, Kenny Rogers, Montgomery Gentry, Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Phi Vassar, Rodney Atkins, Phil Vassar,  Jason Michael Carroll, Collin Raye, Restless Heart, Thirty Two Below, Shooter Jennings, the Mother Truckers, Crystal Shiwanda with a few additional acts to be added.

As of this publication advance tickets are ahead of last year's pace by 18%.

A big addition to this year's event is private sky boxes have been added to the stage enabling fans to go to a "second floor" box and view all of the action stage side. VIP attendees have the ability to view on "first floor" level as they rotate throughout the evening.

The event, which has a large VIP section stage left, continues to be the largest Country festival that has no VIP directly in front of the stage allowing all of the attendees to "get up close and personal" with some of their favorite Country artists.

Flaming Lips header
The Flaming Lips (formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1983) is an American rock band.

The band is known for their lush, multi-layered, psychedelic arrangements, spacey lyrics and bizarre song and album titles like "Psychiatric Explorations of the Fetus With Needles" or "and Yeah, I Know It's a Drag... But Wastin' Pigs Is Still Radical." Their live performances are famous for their elaborate use of costumes, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex lighting and a trademark pair of giant hands.

The group recorded several albums and EPs on an indie label in the 1980s and early 1990s. After signing to Warner Brothers, they scored a hit in 1993 with "She Don't Use Jelly."  Although it has been their only hit single in the U.S., the band has maintained critical respect and, to a lesser extent, commercial viability through albums such as 1999's The Soft Bulletin, named NME Magazine's Album of the Year and 2002's Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

Local partnership buys St. Paul festival; plans to charge admission.
January 2009 | by Eric Kelsey

A Taste of Minnesota, the St. Paul summer festival, has been purchased by International Event Management, a group of three partners.

The new owners hope to add new energy into the 27-year-old festival held on Harriet Island. "We are eager to revitalize A Taste of Minnesota with the help of the people who have made the festival so successful over the years," partner Andy Faris said in a statement.

The group looks to improve food, activities, and entertainment options at the festival to keep step with visitors' tastes.

The improvement, though, comes with a charge. International Event Management said they planned to charge $10 admission to the festival. In exchange, visitors will receive $10 in food and beverage tickets. In past years the festival has been free.

In addition, the new owners said that the festival won't change its famous July 4 fireworks display and it will stay on Harriet Island.

A Taste of Minnesota's founder, Ron Maddox, will stay on and continue as general manager.

International Event Management purchased the festival from Capital City Partnership for an undisclosed amount. Capital City had owned the festival since 1996.
