How to Talk to God
by Rev. Ken
Dr. Holmes wrote in, "How to Talk to God, "Somewhere along the line we shall have to surrender our weakness to Its strength, our fear to Its faith, our lack to Its abundance."
For me personally, I've always had a problem with the idea of surrender, particularly to a God that was never described to me as very loving or kind. I finally was able to overcome my notion of giving into Spirit when I changed my idea of what Spirit meant to me. Not that angry old Deity waiting to get its hands on me, but the good of my life wanting to express Itself through me.
Dr. Holmes goes on to write, "We need not ask how we should reach out to God. All we need do is reach. When each reaches in his own way he will be fulfilling the nature of his own being."
You were created to have a wonderful relationship with your Creator. It's what you have come here to do. To witness yourself having the best life possible and knowing that it has come to you through that which is greater than you are. To know and understand that your desires for love and meaning are an essential part of the unfolding of creation.
As far as Dr. Holmes is concerned the only harm we do ourselves is waiting around to begin this dialogue with Spirit. "No good," he writes, "can come from waiting until someone tells us just-how, because his just-how could never be our just-how. Every man will have to discover his own just-how. And it will be right."
The Universe is set on the default mode of love and kindness. Our lesson is to ask in faith and to know that our every need will be supplied.

MIRACLES EVERY DAY
by Judy James
After each of his spiritual talks on Sunday morning at the Center for Spiritual Living, Rev. Ken Wilcox always says, "A miracle is waiting for you this week. Now, go out and expect it to happen! Miracles are there for you everyday." Rev. Ken's affirmative blast after each service reminds me that miracles are awaiting me. Since he has already inspired me with a rousing, conscious-raising, inspirational talk, I get excited because I have no doubt that I will see miracles that week.
Someone has said, "There are no miracles, unless just waking up in the morning is a miracle." Each week I am expecting the miracles and take my word, they do come. I have started recognizing each, naming them and loving them. There are little ones like my printer would not work no matter what I tried, but then strangely starts working when I stopped calling it names. Another great one: when I was driving home and the rain was coming down in sheets, I surprised myself by saying, "It will not be raining when I have to drag my groceries what seems like 100 steps straight up to get to the apartment." The rain stopped, I got inside with my bags of groceries and then I let the rain continue without interfering again. Now some people won't call those miracles, but I do. So, I always try to remember to say in real appreciation, "I'm grateful for these amazing wonders in my life."
One of the best miracles in my life is when my youngest son called me after I had done affirmative prayer for him. I was concerned that he might not be safe and was really endangering himself because of news I had received. His call and his being safe was an absolutely wonderful miracle. If I start to doubt, I remind myself of these miracles that make me see the Divine in my life.
Now, I expect miracles every time when Rev. Ken exclaims loudly, "Go out and claim your miracles this week!" By then I'm ready and waiting to acknowledge them when they miraculously show up. I thank the Universe for each one and never doubt that they await each of us. I say with Rev. Ken,
EXPECT MIRACLES IN YOUR LIFE EVERY DAY!

Thoughts For The Week | |
| |
Phyllis Diller always attributed one book to changing her life. It was, The Magic of Beliving by Claude M. Bristol.
Here are a couple of quotes from the book:
Always try to do something for the other fellow and you will be agreeably surprised how things come your way - how many pleasing things are done for you.
Every person is the creation of himself, the image of his own thinking and believing. As individuals think and believe, so they are.
It's the constant and determined effort that breaks down all resistance, sweeps away all obstacles.
One secures the gold of the spirit when he finds himself.
Thought is the original source of all wealth, all success, all material gain, all great discoveries and inventions, and of all achievement.
To win you've got to stay in the game.
We usually get what we anticipate.
You have to think big to be big.
You must intensify and render continuous by repeatedly presenting with suggestive ideas and mental pictures of the feast of good things, and the flowing fountain, which awaits the successful achievement or attainment of the desires.
Phyllis Diller believed in New Thought. Here she talks about a book that changed her life, "The Magic of Beliving."

This week's movie: The Next Voice You Hear
Our Founder, Dr. Holmes was friends with Dore Schary, the producer of this film. This is what Dr. Holmes wrote about the movie
The ways in which we approach God are as different as our own individualities, but the purpose is always identical - to reach out toward a Power greater than we are and seek the guidance of an Intelligence that can direct our path into ways of prosperity and peace. There is but one God, and this God is, or should become, an immediate experience in our lives. We all should hear the Voice of God not a God who was, but the God who is. | |
