And the winner is....Mr. Vogelman for best infomercial about the basketball game! Well, maybe not. But the game itself was certainly a winner, as a sold-out house watched Westland staff and students battle it out on the basketball court Friday evening. It was down to the wire until the final buzzer, when it was still tied, 46-46! Westland staff pulled it out in the end, but students are already looking for a rematch!

Many thanks to all who worked so hard to arrange such a terrific event. It all looks effortless, but that's only because of the hours of preparation that have gone before. See the article below for full details, but special thanks here to Pattie "Pull it all Together" Koh Friedman who worked tirelessly to make it happen - and came up with all the great player nicknames (so I figured she at least deserved one of her own!).

If you haven't already done so, don't forget to fill out the Parent Survey regarding Westland's after school programming. Just click here to register your opinions. It will only take a few minutes, and  we really need your input; we are not only hard at work getting the spring session organized (see below), but also are looking ahead to next year!

Thanks to the great success of the Basketball Game (both funwise and financially), we're going to call off Bingo Nite and focus our energies on the upcoming Cultural Arts Cocktail Party on April 8th. Please look for your invitation in the mail shortly and plan to join us for a great evening of food, friends, and performing arts to support Westland's great cultural arts programming.

It Really Was Nothing but Net!
Basketball & NetFriday evening's Staff vs. Student Basketball game was such a success on so many fronts, it's hard to know where to start with thanks.

Pattie Koh Friedman spearheaded things from the PTA end; Principal Danny Vogelman organized the staff  and student teams; Manny Hidalgo coordinated with Potomac Pizza; Josh Chernikoff of Ashley Tutors and Brett Isaacson of One on One Basketball provided t-shirts to the teams, great prizes, and introduced us to our wonderful DJ and emcee, Salim Bhabhrawala who kept the music and action flowing! Thanks also to KOA Sports, Frosting, A Cupcakery, Relic, and  the Urofsky family for great prizes, and to Andrew Eisenberg for refereeing.

Our volunteers were awesome - Nancy Cash, Heidi Dupler, Karen Lippold, Judy Wolf, Laurie Rosen, Nina Eisenberg, Manny Hidalgo, Melissa Urofsky, and Susan Teplitz, as well as many great student volunteers.

Thank you all so much, and get ready for next year's rematch!
Spring After-School Programs Coming Soon!
The weather is warming up and that means spring can't be far away...it will seen even closer when you take a look at After School @ Westland's spring class offerings!

We're still finalizing programs and days, but just to give you a taste of what's to come, we'll have tennis, kayaking, basketball, flag football, volleyball, lacrosse, field hockey, ultimate frisbee - and those are just the sports offerings. Then there's a film class, art, cooking, babysitting, homework & hoops, bass fishing (!), - and more!

We've had some technical difficulties in getting the on-line catalogue up and running, but it should be available early next week. The spring session  generally will  run  from April 5 - May 24, but some class lengths will vary.

Stay tuned!
