Westland's halls were quite a sight on Friday as toga-clad students and teachers went about their daily routine, but with a decidedly Greco-Roman twist! It was, as always, very fun day.
It was also bittersweet, as the date marked the second anniversary of the death of a beloved Westland social studies teacher, Ron Hegedus. Wakeup Westland featured a moving collection of photos of Mr. Hegedus enjoying past Greco-Roman days as only he could. He was in the hearts and minds of many last Friday; I know he would have enjoyed the celebration.
Congratulations to all of the performers in last Friday's annual Talent Show! I wasn't able to be there, but the reviews I've heard have been fantastic. Many thanks to Sherion Cosby and everyone else who worked so hard to pull it together. And of course, thanks most of all to the wonderful student performers!
Speaking of thanks, Westland teachers and staff were rendered speechless by the amazing snacks prepared for their staff meeting last Monday. Under the leadership of 6th grade VP's Karen Lippold and Shelagh Meehan, parents definitely got a jump on Valentine's Day and showed Westland teachers & staff our "heart felt" thanks for all they do!
The Staff/Student Basketball Game scheduled for Friday, 2/25 just keeps getting more awesome. A professional DJ is going to call the action and keep the music flowing; Potomac Pizza is serving up delicious food, we've got great games and prizes - you won't want to miss it! Tickets are just $1 and will go on sale Wednesday, 2/16 at lunch. Space is limited, so get your ticket early. And just in case you missed it, or just want to see it again, click here to check out the commercial featuring Mr. Vogelman - it's inspiring!
And finally, because I can't possibly thank them enough, I want to give a special shout out to school store chair Tiffany Leeson and all of the wonderful volunteers who staff the school store week in and week out. I know business isn't always as brisk as you'd like, but the cafeteria just isn't the same place on the days the school store is shuttered. You all do a wonderful job and your presence adds a richness to the whole lunch experience that is immeasurable.
