My morning e-mailing schedule has slipped a bit, but it's still Monday! We've got another short but busy week at Westland.
On Wednesday, the PTA is co-sponsoring a screening of "Race to Nowhere" (see article below). We excited about bringing this important film to a Westland audience. Tickets are still available, and I urge you to take advantage of the cheaper on-line advance purchase prices. If you'd like to participate in a post-viewing discussion, please stop by La Madeleine on Thursday morning from 7:30 - 9:00am!
The first annual Dodgeball Tournament took place last Friday, and thanks are due to Westland teachers Nick Arnone, Michelle Clise, and Dana Coleman, and to PTA volunteers Ari Antonelli and Laurie Rosen for heading up this effort. I haven't received the final tally of how much food we collected for Manna, but I know that those who participated had a great time.
And thanks to all those who donated drinks and snacks for this afternoon's staff meeting. The spread looked great, and the teachers and staff certainly appreciate the effort.
Please be sure to check the Westland website for up-to-date information about upcoming events!

Magazines Sale Surges to Strong Finish!
After a few sluggish days, the Magazine Sale picked up steam and finished strong. Final numbers are still to be tallied, but I think we raised over $4,000. That's fantastic! Prizes will be handed out at lunch on Monday, 11/15.
The funds will be put to good use, supporting a variety of programs, including cultural arts, enrichment activities, scholarship support, and staff projects. Many, many thanks to chairperson Amy Nadel for her hard work! |

New This Year - Study Skills Nite!
Mark your calendar for Westland's first ever Study Skills Nite on Wednesday, Nov. 17th from 6:30-9:00pm, a joint undertaking by the Westland PTA and the school's administration and staff.
Created in response to popular demand, this event is an opportunity for both parents and students to get tips from the experts about how to make the most of study time. Parents are encouraged to bring your student(s) and select workshops together; the presentations will focus not only on how students can study effectively, but also on how parents can best support those efforts.
Come at 6:30pm for a slice of pizza and a drink, courtesy of the PTA. The program begins at 7:00pm with opening remarks by Principal Danny Vogelman. Then, you'll choose one among five 45-minute seminars taught by Westland teachers and staff. After a brief 15-minute break, you'll attend a second seminar of your choice.
Topics include Fundamentals of Studying, How to Use Ed-Line Effectively, How to Sudy for Math, How to Study for Foreign Languages, and The ABC's of Studying for English.
The PTA and school are excited to be able to offer this program, and we hope for lots of parent/student participation! |
