Student Directory

The Westland Student Directory is a great resource (and a great place to advertise). But it's only as good as you make it.

You can check the accurancy of your student's directory listing on-line. If you don't know your username and password, please email alysa emden.

If you'd like to advertise in the Directory (and reach  our 1,000 families!), click here for more information. Your support makes it possible for the PTA to provide a free directory to each student.
After School @ Westland
School may end at 2:40pm, but Westland students can take advantage of after school activities three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Click here for the lowdown on what's available, the activity bus schedule, registration information, and more. Homework Club and most outdoor classes start this week, so check it out now!

THANKS TO OUR (FIRST) 2010/11 WILDCAT SPONSOR!

I don't know about you, but I am eagerly awaiting a full week of school...but we're all going to have to wait a bit longer! No school on Tuesday due to the primary elections. But it's still a jam packed week at Westland, even with the holiday.

Students will be taking the MAP-R (Measures of Academic Progress - Reading) test over the next couple of weeks in their English classes. Several years ago, MCCPTA prepared an overview of what this test is intended to measure and how it's administered. It's a bit dated and a little arcane in places, but still, a useful summary.

You should have received an e-mail plea from PTA Staff Appreciation Chairperson Carole Klein for donations of food & drink for Monday's monthly staff meeting. We're looking for healthy snacks to keep our staff strong & fit! Please drop off contributions in the front office. Alternatively, you can drop them at my house any time before 2:00pm - just e-mail me to let me know what to expect. This is the first of many requests you'll be getting from Carole and others...the PTA works hard to acknowledge and support our wonderful Westland staff in many different ways. We hope you'll join in as you are able.

I encourage you to check out After School @ Westland. The activities are posted on the Westland website, and are updated regularly, so check back if you don't see what you want right away. New classes are being added as we get the full fall session lined up. Over the spring  and summer, the PTA and school administrators held discussions with an outside vendor to coordinate the afterschool program, but that plan fell through at the last minute, leaving us to scramble to pull together a program. But thanks to the efforts of Missy Reingruber, Sarah Patton, and Landis Fisher, we have a program up and running, that is, I think, better than ever. There's always room for improvement though, and we welcome your suggestions and better yet - your assistance!

As always, please contact me or Exec. Vice President Pattie Koh Friedman if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or especially offers of help!
