Save Those Grocery Receipts!
In this tough economic climate, our community partners are more important than ever. Westland raises money while you do what you would do anyway - shop for food! Our newest partnerships are with Snider's Supermarket and Chevy Chase Supermarket. Snider's is located at 1936 Seminary Road, Silver Spring, MD 20920 and Chevy Chase Supermarket is located at 8531 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.

Westland earns 1% of everything you spend! All you have to do is SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS. Then, send them into school in an envelope marked "PTA - Grocery Receipts" or mail then to Karen Safer at 3212 Pauline Drive, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. Questions? Contact PTA coordinators Karen Safer or Elysa Blacker.

THANKS TO OUR WILDCAT SPONSORS!

There is so much going on at Westland these days - I'm having a hard time keeping up with the news!

Over 50 parents came out to the PTA meeting on January 21st to get the lowdown on B-CC from veteran parents.  It was a terrific evening. Many thanks to our panel - Mary Cobbett, Julie Doll, Debbie Friedman, Bridget Hartmann, Rina Palchick and Pooh Shapiro - for sharing their time and expertise.

Many thanks to all who made the International Fair on Saturday, January 24th such a success! The displays were great, as was the dancing and the fantastic potluck dinner. I was out of town, but heard great reports. I will make sure to plan better next year!

And on to upcoming events - this Friday is BINGO NITE! This is a new event for Westland and I want to thank Renee Magner, Alex Weiner, Pam Brown and Barb Glickman for putting in so much time & effort. You can show your appreciation by showing up!

Another new initiative will take place at the end of the month. The Guidance Advisory Committee, under the leadership of Chris Lawrence, and the Guidance Office staff have teamed up to put together an "International Connections" dinner on Saturday, Feb. 28th.  Gina Seebachan has graciously agreed to host this event for international families new to Westland- look for more information shortly!

And finally...I end  with my perennial plea - it's not too late to join the PTA!  Our goal is 100% membership, so please
join the PTA today.

SGA Collects Change to Make Change!
Pennies for Patients
On Monday, February 9, the Westland SGA will start its coin collection drive to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Pennies for Patients campaign is a nation-wide effort by students to raise funds to help people with blood cancer. This week, each STAR class saw a video about leukemia; next week, each class will start collecting coins. Please check under your sofa cushions, your car seats, or  wherever change tends to accumulate in your household, and join with your child in supporting this great effort!
Save the Date!
Put Saturday evening, March 7th on your calendar now! You won't want to miss the PTA's cocktail party celebrating Westland's arts programs. It's going to be at Artworks in Bethesda. Your invitation will be in the mail next week! If you can help with organizing, invites, etc., please contact event chairs Linda Wolpert and Peggy Hsieh.
Support Our Community Partnerships!
The PTA relies on the support of its community partners to help underwrite our many programs. But it takes two to make a partnership successful! In addition to our partnerships with Snider's and Chevy Chase Supermarket, Westland partners with the following organizations:
